I worked at CA Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is good and the ability to work remotely is a plus. Many nice people and good products.

    Cons

Too political. Layer of incompetent management that is OVER tenured and UNDER qualified! Pockets of marketing are run like little fiefdoms and there is always an outsider positioned to be the scapegoat. Power is used for personal gain NOT in the companies interest.

    Advice to Management

Check out leaders lacking education or experience anywhere OTHER than CA. Be suspect of people who have been around too long. Create cross functional task forces with random worker bees to get fresh ideas. Poor leaders are threatened by talent. Clean house where it will make a difference.

I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great co-workers that's about it.

    Cons

Many lay-offs! I watched the company go through about 3 major lay-offs in 5 years! It's all about the bottom line. I've watched stupidity get promoted and there's nothing that you can do. Same bureaucracy that you see everywhere. Do more with less!

    Advice to Management

Senior Managenent should have performance built into their contracts based on retention of employees and building the business. Employee satisfaction surveys. No company should lay-off thousands of workers and claim success. It's pitiful. This post may look like a disgruntled former employee post but it's not. I have advanced despite being laid off; however, I am brutally honest and was devastated by being let go and I have armed myself to the point that I will never be let go again and changed industries entirely.

I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work life balance, along with a nice laid back company culture and decent employee benefits also. They spend a lot on marketing their new brand.

    Cons

They're a software only company, so that really limits your learning and earning potential when it comes to career roles and business deals. Management & employees are often unqualified. Highly unethical business practices - their former CEO Sanjay just got out of prison this year.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Agile development environment, decent benefits plan options if willing to pay for more comprehensive plan. 5 weeks time off after 10 years of service.

    Cons

Politics driven, promotion opportunities in technical writing limited, particularly after technical writing department flattened out leadership structure and made leadership roles a 'behavior' but no longer part of job title.
Constant pressure to get ahead of peers to keep off layoff lists, layoffs constant threat, protect from within culture for more senior employees versus rewarding performers.
Raises minimal if you work your way up through company rather than come in from outside.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees, minimize constant layoff risk and inherent peer competitiveness to be two steps ahead of cube neighbor. Reduce manager to employee ratio. Make performance management more manageable and meaningful. Give raises! Allow flexible work location for globally involved employees.

I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice free gym with private showers
    Summer Fridays
    Unlimited hot beverages
Great short term opportunity to learn new technology but keep your options open.

    Cons

Management sets unrealistic deadlines and expectations. Workers go over and beyond to meet those expectations only to be rewarded with their head served on a chopping block.
Moral is very low and they act shocked that this is reflected in the employee surveys. They set meetings to "address it" but how can anyone thrive in an environment of constant fear of loosing your job even after you have been loyal and put in more than your fair share of OT.
Yes CA it is in your DNA...layoffs!

    Advice to Management

Top executives need to stop telling employees that layoffs are a thing of the past

I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Some great personnel
    Benefits are good
    Options are ok
    Salary meets industry standards

    Cons

CA says they have changed but are still a very command and control operation within customer success, especially at the very top of it. Many have their own agenda and if you veer off even a bit you may as well find another job. Bottom line if you work in customer success you have very little to look forward too, the rest of CA is a great place for opportunity

    Advice to Management

Maybe the executive team should really see who is getting laid off
