I worked at CA Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great co-workers that's about it.

    Cons

Many lay-offs! I watched the company go through about 3 major lay-offs in 5 years! It's all about the bottom line. I've watched stupidity get promoted and there's nothing that you can do. Same bureaucracy that you see everywhere. Do more with less!

    Advice to Management

Senior Managenent should have performance built into their contracts based on retention of employees and building the business. Employee satisfaction surveys. No company should lay-off thousands of workers and claim success. It's pitiful. This post may look like a disgruntled former employee post but it's not. I have advanced despite being laid off; however, I am brutally honest and was devastated by being let go and I have armed myself to the point that I will never be let go again and changed industries entirely.

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Unlimited vacation, reasonable healthcare options, standard 401-K, and at times good bonus.

    Cons

Job insecurity with countless acquisitions, layoffs severance is bare minimum (2 weeks for every year of service).

    Advice to Management

Please treat employees as human beings who got their of lives rather than some pawn that you can easily discard to meet some numbers for a quarter and leave making quick bucks. Give them some dignity by not coming in and snatch their computers as soon as they are notified that they are being laid off. Keep them in the payroll for a month or so, so they can find another job.

Benefits and experience is not bad. Decent company to retire for. Working on new products every quarter. Startup culture is good.

    Cons

Stability, usually get laid off if project doesn't work out. People don't help as you expect them to help and less growth.

    Advice to Management

    Improve salaries

I worked at CA Technologies full-time

    Pros

Free lunch and snacks. Decent 401k plan.

    Cons

No growth at all for a software engineer. Management does not care at all for anything.

    Advice to Management

Listen to you engineers. Good people have left in front of me to better companies in silicon valley because of the frustration. Try to include engineer in actual decision making process. The top management might think they have the full picture, but you don't. The product managers are just here for numbers and they don't care about the quality.

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

While being such a large corporation they do strive to make a good culture for those who like such institutionalized and standardized places.

The sheer incompetence and all out political culture of the VP level and down is down right comical at times if it were for the fact that it chews up passionate employees and spits out zombies.

    Cons

No true career pathing, growth through aquisition, slow to change course and culure, more lip service than true cultural adoption.

    Classic corporation 2000

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees, slow down and stop sweating the pressure to perform or else. Push back, slow things down, and truly engage in a positive culture of agile management and employee empowerment.
