I worked at CAE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good holiday entitlement and colleagues (not management)

    Cons

Rather than promoting from within they bring members of staff over from Brussels. Very little to no career progression available.

A lot of people are made redundant every year, and they really really struggle to fill positions available due to the poor running of the company.

Low salaries compared to other places

    Advice to Management

    Treat staff better.

Respect their work and actually take time to learn what they do. Some members of staff work 60+ hours a week and the centre manager works about 30 and goes home to Brussels every weekend.

Management training for managers lower down, some really have no clue.

I have been working at CAE full-time

    Pros

Good people, decent benefits, interesting products

    Cons

Management is so disorganized! None of the business divisions talk to each other. The company is driven by numbers but has no road map in place for achieving goals. Business leaders generally have no management experience or rudimentary training.

    Advice to Management

Define your goals and create a plan to achieve them. Hold your leaders responsible for their actions and their people.

I worked at CAE full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere with lots of fun people to work with. Benefits are great and the technology is really interesting!

    Cons

Some reliance on finding new contacts so layoffs can happen if CAE is unable to find enough new contracts after old ones end. While I enjoyed working with my coworkers I did find the office was your pretty typical corporate environment. It wasn't bad but with lots of tech companies promoting unique workplace atmospheres it feels like a minor con by comparison.

I have been working at CAE full-time

    Pros

Great co workers, direct supervisor is fantastic, they all work very hard to make the customers happy.

    Cons

Quality of life not very good at times due to under staffing, many days off worked and double shifts. We are given a bonus for working double shifts, which is nice, but the pay for working our day off is at least half to a third of what it should be compared to what we would be paid if we used that day off to actually fly outside.

    Advice to Management

Raise pay to compete with outside flying opportunities, and to attract and retain qualified personnel. Allocate money spent on cosmetics to updating simulators, we don't need a new lobby, ours is great, but customers are getting upset with the sims being in constant disrepair.

I worked at CAE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed what i did as service technician working on patient simulators. Helping people to help other's and help save people's lives. At times it became mediocre and somewhat monotonous but just the same.

    Cons

At times could be hostile work environment. There were those that abided by the rules and others who didn't have to. Quality wasn't the greatest and I often found myself wondering what would happen when that simulator went out the back door. I stayed employed there quite a few years and at times stayed for the people working there. I found myself wanting out because of the people and the quality.

    Advice to Management

Upper management is going to do what they want and what they think is best. At first I was very happy with the Canadian management and was happy we were bought out. Now I'm not sure. My advice, instead of building a newer simulator to save the company, concentrate and fix the problems at hand. Once the bad mindset has set in by customers and would be customers its hard to change.
