I have been working at CAL POLY full-time

    Pros

Cal Poly is known for having a learn by doing mentality that employers really appreciate since we are applying what we are learning on a daily basis.

    Cons

The load of work becomes higher then most schools which creates an atmosphere of high constant high demand and people sometimes forget how important people skills are outside of the working environment.

    Advice to Management

I believe the setup at Cal Poly is great, I would like graduate students to get bit more exposure to the practicality of what we are learning as well.

You get to encourage the younger generation on the greatness that is engineering and how it's a very powerful and versatile tool in today's society

It was a little harder working with middle school children in this job specifically because you're constantly trying to find a way to keep their attention

    Pros

Great faculty committed to education. Everybody works hard to deliver for students

    Cons

Pay is way out of sync with competitive hiring process and cost of living in SLO. Push for research is not in line with undergraduate education mission and could destroy the undergraduate focus that has made Cal Poly great.

    Advice to Management

Back off on uncompensated research requirements and refocus on Cal Poly's core dedication to undergraduate research
