I worked at CAL POLY part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I got to set my own hours, and set the direction of the project I worked on as a research assistant. Working on the new technologies I got to work on was lots of fun.

    Cons

The pay was pretty low. I could have made much more money with summer internships at private companies.

    Advice to Management

Keep letting students lead their projects. It works well when faculty members work at the same level as students. Finding a way to give merit-based raises could encourage people.

    Pros

Cal poly is a great company to work for. I did a part time enterprise project allowing me to make money while going to school.

    Cons

Working at Cal Poly was all good. I do not have anything bad to say about the enterprise project I was apart of.

    Advice to Management

Management could be a little more hands on in the enterprise project, though it was still a great learn by doing experience.

    Pros

College amenities, quality of work, students are all positives that enhance the work environment. Sports and culture events promote a sense of community.

    Cons

Some of the facilities are dated and not well maintained. Older buildings and constant construction are downsides. Lack of diversity in executive staff and faculty.

    Advice to Management

Work on improving diversity by hiring and retaining employees. Add more employee education opportunities and short courses.

I worked at CAL POLY (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to work with students you go to classes with and the full time employees are all really nice!

    Cons

The scheduling system is really unorganized and somewhat unfair. Most of my shifts were not what I requested and they made me stay PAST finals week.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to the students about what we need to continue to work there because those are the individuals that work at the store.
