- Things can be a bit disorganized - Too many meetings - At times, there are "too many chefs in the kitchen" and decisions take much longer than they should

-Welcoming, laid-back environment. Small teams filled with great people. -An easy environment to work for a year or two if you want to explore many technologies and get experience. -If you need a flexible work environment because of life outside of work this is a good place.

-Titles & Compensation is static across product departments even though skillset and output is not. -Base compensation well below market for the diversity of skillset necessary for some teams. -No growth. Working hard will net you compensation increase equivalent to cost of living (if you are lucky). You may get a better bonus but the bonus is zero sum so if you are on a team with strong performers don't expect much. -Because of the above 3 Carfax is unable to retain most of the good engineers that come on board and all of their efforts to remedy that have been slow and conservative. -Equipment for engineers is mediocre. Single monitor setups, old laptops bloated with mostly irrelevant garbage. -At all levels available to interact with, leadership doesn't take ownership. The blame travels up. -Cut backs on travel to conferences and other professional development

Pros

The casual work environment and open space concept is great for fostering collaboration. You work on a product that you believe in. The HR department is responsive, helpful, and will listen. They will not always agree with you and tend to side with management but your voice can be heard. Flexibility in work schedules helps create a work/life balance. The opportunity to work in a unique line of business that affords you the opportunity to think outside the box.

Cons

Experience can be summed up as a good company to work for but with the worst management ever experienced professionally. There is lack of diversity with the management team, starting at the top of the Senior Team. They let it be known they are not an organization to promote from within, you can argue that is not a con but definitely something to be aware of. Because they do not promote from within, people in positions are hired at market value and causes an imbalance in compensation for tenured people who have grown with the company. Having people report to you making a large sum more, but being told that is normal. The culture between the VA office and the MO office are incredibly different yet they try to force it to be one. Several important initiatives going at once that occur in a silo. Causes for much confusion when matrixed/cross team support is needed. You end up with a top 10 list of work to be done that ends up all being ranked #1. No acknowledgement of having advanced degrees with compensation. Want to ignore that as a factor in determining offers for employment.

Truly rewarding to come to work in an environment where positivity and innovation is contagious. Employees are adopted as part of the Carfax family from the first day. The numerous incentives you receive from great coffee, free candy in the lobby, ice cream socials, donut welcome for new employees, Friday lunches, work anniversary gifts are just a part of the overall employee care to provide excellent product for consumers of which we even receive, free Carfax Reports are some of the many benefits. The benefits plan for employees are great and life/work/fun balance flexibility is evident year round at Carfax. Every season is Carfax season.

CARFAX is where careers go to die. They create a fun work environment to try to convince you that your career doesn't matter. There is no upward mobility and you will be micro managed or ignored unless you are part of the Good Old Boy Inner Circle.
