I have been working at CAT Financial full-time for more than a year

    Pros

IT Managers are so inept they can't actually determine the quality of your work, so you get paid well regardless of your output. You are strongly graded on your ability to suck up, show up early, how well you dress, and for how long you work at the company.

    Cons

IT Management has fostered an environment of incompetence for so long that they had to rebrand themselves into Information Services (I.S.) because they couldn't even pretend to know or care about technology anymore. IT Leaders are hand picked due to their lack of knowledge in information technology, and are only rewarded for displaying the 3 skills that Caterpillar values in leaders; GREEN SHIFTING every one of their...

    Advice to Management

Advice to Management: Reduce your functions and salary to Project Managers for the small pool of technical talent that is keeping all of your horrible decisions from ruining the department. Stop getting in the way of technical decision making since you obviously have no interest in the field.

I have been working at CAT Financial full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Good benefits, good pay, and good office.

    Cons

Lack of vision and too much red tape. You HAVE to be part of the very close network of individuals to get promoted. Not a company for mid-career hires. They value more the years you have been at Cat than your knowledge and expertise.

    I worked at CAT Financial

    Pros

Good pay and benefits for area. Job security. Nice building. Some good managers

    Cons

Leadership directs your career, meaning they pick jobs for you that they need filled even if you don't like the work, or have the skills/experience for it. Sometimes it works out for you, sometimes it doesn't. If you get trapped in a role you have no business being in they make it very hard to move on by setting expectations beyond your capabilities and requiring great performance in your current role to be eligible to...

    Advice to Management

Let people guide their own careers. When it's clear things aren't working change course instead of spending more time and money on doomed projects.

I worked at CAT Financial full-time

    Pros

Competitive pay, great benefits, good people, other perks like cafeteria and gym. It really is a great place to start a career.

    Cons

Extremely bureaucratic. Training across the company is terrible. The company as a whole seems resistant to adapting its culture to what modern companies offer: flexible schedules, work-from-home, casual attire, etc. This is causing a lot people in the FFP program to seek employment at companies that are able to offer these benefits that many young professionals are looking for. Especially when work -life balance may not...

    I worked at CAT Financial

    Pros

One is treated with a lot of respect. I loved working every day. The opportunities are there.

    Cons

Unless someone has a BS, they should not bother to apply.

    Advice to Management

Training is very poor. The CAT way is to give a person minimal training and then get a baptism by fire.
