      Pros

I've not worked for an org quite like CBI before. I feel supported in my role and am encouraged to grow and develop. Everyone that I come in contact with has been extremely helpful. I don't see the politics you find at other companies here at CBI. The company has been working on developing not just it's product, but also it's people. There are many benefits/perks: full suite of benefits, 401K match, fully paid parental leave, annual education reimbursement, learning opportunities, competitive salary. That's just to name a few.

      Cons

With the growth of the company, there have been growing pains and we are working through them. Change is not easy, but everyone is working together to see the company through to it's next level.

CBI - growing up! Will never love a company more

      Pros

The people! I cannot emphasize enough how terrific the people are - smart, quirky, kind, capable, dealt with my incessant and mediocre slack comments/jokes. Opportunity and Ownership. You can build something here if you want it badly enough. You have to want to make something of yourself and go for it. This is a company that has a good core business and big ideas to expand. There will be gaps that require bold people to seize and run with solutions. To me, there are few things more rewarding and empowering than ownership. Work/Life Balance. This is a company where you can live your life and see your family. I cannot thank CBI enough for the many times I needed to take care of personal matters and there was never an issue. This is a vital benefit and is taken seriously.

      Cons

I disagree sharply with some comments made recently in other reviews regarding how CBI has changed for the worse. Change is natural - it is inevitable with growth - and results in some fallen expectations. I think currently one noticeable flaw though are departments aren't communicating as well as they should be - that needs improvement but is fixable.

      Straw man on fire

      Pros

You work with some really smart people and the midtown office is nice.

      Cons

There's really nothing else I can say that hasn't already been said. The 5 star reviews are fake reviews left by senior management who lucked into the role. Promotions are based off of who you are friends with. Weird cult like environment where you're expected to hang out and be friends with you coworkers and only your coworkers. Product has a lot of potential, but it's been a lot of hot air for a while. Anand is controlling and indecisive. He's totally incapable of letting any of the senior leadership actually do their jobs and make independent decisions. He brings in new blood to create new growth and business lines, but there is no trust to let the team experiment and build anything that isn't 100% in line with his vision. If you don't think the world starts and ends with CB Insights you're not going to have a great time. If you're not out drinking and partying with the OG CBI crew be prepared to get to get ignored and passed over for promotions.

Mixed bag in what appears to be a downward spiral

      Pros

Smart, motivated colleagues; Focus on execution, low amount of politics. Lots of talent in middle and lower ranks. Compelling research, helpful data.

      Cons

I'm only writing this review after reading some of the recent 5-star reviews which paint an entirely inaccurate picture and likely come as a result of significant prompting from HR. As with any company, there are bright spots and not-so-bright spots. Unfortunately, the number of bright spots at CBI has been on the decline, partly driven by a lack of clarity on what the company is doing or going to do. Sales hears one thing, and other teams have an entirely different perspective. Every quarter or two there is a new vision for the company, and basic core issues around morale, growth, and gameplan remain unaddressed. The recent exodus of both leaders and middle management reflects the trajectory of the company. It can always turn around but will take a lot effort and real change in the operating model.

Incredible opportunity be part of a fast growing tech startup!

      Pros

The fact that the company has achieved the revenue targets they have with the limited funding they''ve gotten is a testament to how strong the product-market fit is. Having been a part of the sales team for 4+ years I've seen a tremendous amount of growth and change. While there will inevitably be challenges with a fast paced environment, everyone has always had a chance to succeed and top performers have always excelled. Additionally, being at 5 other SaaS companies, I can say how rare it is for a company to have such empathy for their employees. The People team and leadership is always concerned about people's well being. While not everything can be solved over night, they listen to feedback and implement everything they can. Furthermore, the sales team is on FIRE and has hit their number the last 7 months. With all the success, there is a huge emphasis on hiring and onboarding and ensuring people blow out their numbers. The new SVP is laser focused on ensuring AEs and Sales Leadership make strong earnings. Amidst all of this, the thing I pride myself the most on having worked at CB Insights is the career growth. The SDRs are the lifeblood of the org and have gotten promoted to all different parts of the org (we've promoted over 50 SDRs to date). If you look at AEs LinkedIns, you will see all the promotions people have had. In addition to formal promotions, there is a strong emphasis on development (what companies have an in-house sales coach?) as well as low ratios of managers-AEs to give people the support they need. If you're considering an SDR or AE role at CB Insights and want to be a part of something special, make money and grow your career, there's no better company.

      Cons

There are no major cons working here. Identifying your place in the market is hard so things will not be perfect. That's the beauty of it. You get to experience and help impact the way the world approaches emerging technology. So the only "con" is if you don't like change then this isn't the place for you.

      Avoid at all costs

      Pros

-Cool office in Midtown New York

      Cons

-Work life balance is non-existent -The company is full of politics -They pride themselves on promoting SDRs internally into the AE role. Sadly, most get fired or leave because they do not have a strong enough sales leadership team for coaching. -If you are a favorite, you are given the best accounts to work. If not, good luck as there is zero guidance. -The product hasn't evolved as quickly as it should. This makes it hard to sell against competitors. -Favoritism plays an important role in your career growth (or lack there of). If you choose to work here, make sure you play the game. It is important for you to succeed. -Sales goals are not attainable -Pay is low. They act like earning potential is high if you exceed your goals, but you can get paid much more elsewhere.

      Disappointed in CB

      Pros

There really are some incredible people working at the company. I left on good terms, and am very grateful for the time I spent at CB Insights. This is not a disgruntled employee! (And frankly, I don't think many of these negative reviews on here are, though they've been painted as such.) But there are some glaring issues that are hard to ignore.

      Cons

There are some very significant downsides to working at CB Insights, and I'd think long and hard about whether or not you want to hitch your wagon to this company before signing any employment offers. The main concerns are: product, senior leadership, and diversity & inclusion efforts. Product: The platform is great in theory, but the UX is complex at best and the company is not prioritizing user experience. The underlying data powering the platform has been stitched together from so many disparate sources that it's impossible to verify, despite the efforts of the very capable data team, and has caused a mountain of accuracy issues for research. Finally, the engineering team is stretched thin trying to appease senior leadership, and is too busy adding to and updating data offerings that the team doesn't have time to fix the core infrastructure, which was basically cobbled together by the first engineer at the company and then left to fester. Regardless of where you sit in the company, the product issues will make your job harder. Leadership: I don't have many nice words here, so I'll be brief, and I won't even mention Anand's Twitter. A tiny startup that operates at the whims of the CEO is fine, even expected -- it's much different when its a 300-person company. I've seen 40 person teams drop everything and pivot at Anand's request. The urgent requests also require other senior leaders to make unilateral decisions that may not make sense, not communicate clearly on those decisions, muddle the team's core purpose, and confuse the team. There are some truly incredible managers on the team, but they're often overshadowed and outranked by some really bad ones. Diversity & inclusion: Really disappointed about the company's performance here. There is a mismatch between CB's external reputation vs. its internal one, and it seems to materially impact the minority employees. And at least while I was at the company, it would not release any statistics on the makeup of its employees, even internally. You can't fix what you don't measure, so a lack of transparency on this front shows me that diversity is not a priority at the co.

      Pros

      - Interesting emerging tech research - Friendly and helpful colleagues - Career growth (if you started a few years ago)

      Cons

Sadly the company is no longer the exciting and vibrant place that it used to be. There have been numerous strategy, culture, product, and process missteps over the past 6-12 months. This is directly contributing to an exodus of long-standing employees (both leadership and individual contributors) who built the company up to what it is today. It seems like every few days you hear about another wave of people leaving. Lastly the pay is nowhere close to market rate, despite the adjustments and raises they give.

      Pros

-a lot of smart and talented people to work with -good research and brand awareness

      Cons

Unfortunately, this is a sad story, much like the Titanic. But the difference is, this ship can be saved by simply taking feedback seriously! CB Insights was once a great company to work for with a good product that served the VC and CVC community well, and had a fun start up and collaborative environment. They knew their lane, they had traction, and their pricing was relatively affordable. However, their CEO couldn’t help his pivoting addiction. They decided to mold into a more comprehensive solution including data, research, workflow, and other elements all in one without really capturing any market, and their pricing became double any of their competitors in each lane that they competed in. This has caused mass confusion for its employees, but more importantly, has created a lot of complications for their customer base. Now - they have even pivoted further into trying to create a marketplace for emerging tech vendors - no one knows what the the vision is, and unfortunately that has caused many people to not want to be there anymore. Jack of all trades, master of none!!!! That applies to their product and offering as well as their CEO’s management style. He simply does not trust highly qualified leaders to do their jobs, and interferes with whatever strategy they have, especially as it relates to product.
