I worked at CB&I (More than a year)

    Pros

Starting salary was fair for the area, benefits were good, OT was great

    Cons

No training provided when asked for or required, office run by good ole boy system, manager rude/disrespectful of all employees on site, over hiring and then laying off

    Advice to Management

The GM needs to listen to employees on site instead of letting managers curse at people, training needs to be given when needed, what's fair for one should be fair for all including vacation and PTO, annual raises are needed straight across the board for non-union employees

    Pros

Salary pay is above the average

    Cons

Management Don't interest to upgrade current condition to get better and easier. They keep using old system and afraid to loose their position. Sometimes their decision is not engineering and like a politician.

    Advice to Management

Please don't work only the engineer who cleverly approached to them only and need to discuss every engineer to improve the best for company. Please keep their mind to thrust the new employ engineer also. Please do not use the outdated software and use updated software to get the best for the company.

"Working at CB&I was challenging at times."

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Very interesting projects to work on. Lots of opportunities to learn. Very good benifits, pay and overtime. Good supervisors. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Disciplines do not communicate changes with each other. Employees do not show much initiative. This creates multiple revisions on construction document's. Nightmare for construction.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of some of the staff who feel that they are entitled. Consider replacing them with some excellent contractors whom are the to go. Have your HR department be more sensitive when laying off employees.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

    I worked at CB&I full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at CB&I might allow you some time to find another job at a good company

    Cons

It's a sweat shop atmosphere in Houston. The good ole boys run the show....dump on the employees...treat them like crap....no layoff notice...HR thugs just rudely come to your cube and tell you to come with them no questions asked. They pack your stuff and get it to you somehow. No respect at all for employees. Baton Rouge oil and gas employees were treated like they were stupid when in fact the quality of work and quality of engineers and designers was far superior to Houston.

    Advice to Management

Pride cometh before a fall. CB&I needs to clean out it's upper management starting with CEO Ackerman...$15 million man. He is destroying the company little by little. Hardly any cash flow......he is one of the lowest rated CEO's.
