    I worked at CB&I full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at CB&I might allow you some time to find another job at a good company

    Cons

It's a sweat shop atmosphere in Houston. The good ole boys run the show....dump on the employees...treat them like crap....no layoff notice...HR thugs just rudely come to your cube and tell you to come with them no questions asked. They pack your stuff and get it to you somehow. No respect at all for employees. Baton Rouge oil and gas employees were treated like they were stupid when in fact the quality of work and quality of engineers and designers was far superior to Houston.

    Advice to Management

Pride cometh before a fall. CB&I needs to clean out it's upper management starting with CEO Ackerman...$15 million man. He is destroying the company little by little. Hardly any cash flow......he is one of the lowest rated CEO's.

    Pros

Benefits, pay, peers, and work to family balance.

    Cons

Roller-coaster opportunity. When projects are available everything is great but the lack of projects means the lack of job security. This is although the nature of the particular industry and not a reflection of the company.

    Pros

Supportive and structured. They view their talent as a corporate asset to market.

    Cons

Large and try to standardize their practices that require them to develop rules (laws) that they must then enforce. They are not flexible enough to allow for subjective reviews.

    Advice to Management

Formalize practice of listening to those closest to the work.

    I worked at CB&I full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent, slightly higher than similar companies. The culture can be overly aggressive at times. As a project manager, be prepared. Document everything. Decent benefits at a minimal cost per pay period. As you survive the aggressive culture, thrive on the training and tuition reimbursement. CB&I projects are not for those easily rattled or offended.

    Cons

Beaurocratic culture. Aggressive culture. Random inability of Management to be accountable for negative or unintended results. Minimal annual pay increases based on merit.

    Advice to Management

Value employees. Recognize the intellectual capital they contribute to your company.

    I worked at CB&I full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good place to work. Considerable amount of OT. Pay and benefits are good.

    Cons

When job is about 3/4 complete, CB&I is famous for sending the project to India or some other 3rd world nation to be completed. Then there is a massive layoff.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying to people during interviews and leading them to believe that there is a 25 year plus backlog. Be honest with people.
