I worked at CBS Interactive full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, nice HR department, delicious coffee in the lobby.
    Fun events-

    Cons

    Poor management-
No training or time dedicated to new hires-
Teams do not interact with one another- everyone is in a silo
There was literally a time I was screamed at because a program was broken on my manager's computer?! How does that make any sense...

    Advice to Management

Promote managers because of their managerial skills not just their experience with the job. It takes a certain aptitude and patience to be a good manager.

I worked at CBS Interactive full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and health insurance. There are no other pros with CBS Interactive.

    Cons

No work culture at TV City location, no career growth, raises occur only because employees going union, managers have no experience with final cut, adobe premiere, media composer or various software and hardware tools needed for digital media needs of EST and VOD partners but will advise on file creation, manipulation, and transcoding. In many cases, employees are performing managerial work but not compensated properly.

When you have constantly written to CBS Interactive HR about current managers and directors creating a hostile work environment, inappropriately touching male and female employees, purposefully holding back pertinent training and policies that impact employee work performed and daily schedules, managers having outbursts at work making employees cry in front of other employees. All deemed, "Appropriate and does not fall outside professional behavior," you really need to look elsewhere.

As everyone is told when you exit, "We will investigate the issue." But when you are the 4th employee to exit due to horrendous working conditions, culture, management, and an HR group what will do all it can to make sure employees are constantly kept in the dark about their own career growth and potential, you know where you tend to stand in the whole scheme of the organization.

    Advice to Management

20 plus years of "video experience" does not equate to positive employee treatment, growth and inviting work culture. Its rather outdated to keep believing that notion and willingly refuse to take in 2017 procedures and practices.

I worked at CBS Interactive full-time

    Pros

    + Benefits are ok
    + CBS name
    + Decent work/life balance

    Cons

    - below average pay
    - below average equipment for employees
    - more politics than DC
    - constant reorgs and people leaving the company
    - no vision from leadership
    - run like a frat house
    - a total mess with no accountability
    - no investment in talent

    Advice to Management

Take responsibility for the negative culture you've created which weighs down every conversation. Address the mercenary-like attitudes of senior leadership. Clean house.

I worked at CBS Interactive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits were the best thing about the job.

    Cons

Everything else. Zero work-life balance, overworked, management tells you you're not good enough no matter how much work you do or how many obstacles you clear in your daily tasks. There are no perks to working there, you have to plead your case for months just to get a new coffee maker for your department. The company, as a whole, tries to divide and conquer; you will never be able to mingle with people in neighboring departments or people you email every single day. And if you do get the chance to do that, management will try to only take some people and create conflict within the team. No one at this company is happy, so if that's important to you then don't bother. I cannot stress enough: This was the worst career I have made in my life and I would immediately become sad the moment I drove onto the property every single day.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting the older people who are the cancers of departments while talented, bright, young professionals start to desperately look to leave after only three months of being with the company. Get some HR reps who actually care and will do something when upper management does belittling things to their employees like pat them on their heads as if they were dogs. Finally, pay your employees what they are worth.

    Pros

Its easy to improve their code base primarily because it is so poorly managed.

This place might be a good place to hide if you do not want to create anything innovative anymore.

    Cons

People here are too busy partying to pay attention to their product.

People their lie about their vacation time.

    Their products use older technologies.

Stop being delusional about being in the top 10 so was yahoo and look at them now.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying triangulation is what teenagers do.

    Stop promoting the wrong people.

    Treat people equally.

Stop acting like you have infinite vacation. Vacation should be equal across the board.

Really just make an attempt to be honest.

There does not seem to be a sense of urgency here and that is one among many factors that contributes to your weak product offering.

    Pros

It's a good industry to be in, covering interesting subject matter. The company is a well-known brand that looks good on the resume.

    Cons

The senior management team is made up of politicians, not leaders. Most teams are severely understaffed, micromanagement runs rampant, and compensation packages are well below market value.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees to do the jobs they were hired to do. Failing to foster an environment of ownership and accountability will continue to result in the loss of top talent.

    Cons

Team atmosphere, unknowledgable staff, unhelpful product managers, clueless management, and terrible products.

There's a saying inside CBS Interactive: Where good programmers go to die - it's very true.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your talented employees, and remove the roadblocking employees who only want to play politics.

    Pros

If you like to work and are committed, you can work at CBS interactive. However dont expect anything in return other than salary.

    Cons

Lots of politics. They do not encourage or identify talent within the company. They promote people who are known to the upper management.

    Advice to Management

Identify the resources that care about what is being built for the company or else the company will have a revolving door of good resources who come , refuse to stay and go.
Remember , that people who stay too long(decades) are the ones who can not survive else where.
