I worked at CBS Interactive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits were the best thing about the job.

    Cons

Everything else. Zero work-life balance, overworked, management tells you you're not good enough no matter how much work you do or how many obstacles you clear in your daily tasks. There are no perks to working there, you have to plead your case for months just to get a new coffee maker for your department. The company, as a whole, tries to divide and conquer; you will never be able to mingle with people in neighboring departments or people you email every single day. And if you do get the chance to do that, management will try to only take some people and create conflict within the team. No one at this company is happy, so if that's important to you then don't bother. I cannot stress enough: This was the worst career I have made in my life and I would immediately become sad the moment I drove onto the property every single day.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting the older people who are the cancers of departments while talented, bright, young professionals start to desperately look to leave after only three months of being with the company. Get some HR reps who actually care and will do something when upper management does belittling things to their employees like pat them on their heads as if they were dogs. Finally, pay your employees what they are worth.

    Cons

    - Below market pay
    - Micromanagement and no real product vision

    Advice to Management

I have been working at CBS Interactive full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nothing decent to say here, sorry just being honest. Why am I still here? just waiting for the next job to come around like everyone else here.

    Cons

    Pays lower than market value.
No bonuses or any decent perks.
    Community seating is lousy.
No motivation due to management not caring, at least most of them. Some do but they have there hands tied to what they can do for others.
High turnover rate, so much that people don't bother knowing your name

I worked at CBS Interactive full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

None that come to mind, some good people there but not sure why they are there.

    Cons

Just about everything. Terrible leadership, basically know nothings that just pat each other on their backs. I have never worked with so many incompetent, arrogant people.

    Advice to Management

Read these reviews and take heed. You have a pathetic, mismanaged organization that doesn't know how to make money or how to treat people like adults.

    NOT ONE THING AT ALL

    Cons

Inexperienced Ad Sales Team lead by horrible management. Sales team will never take responsibility for their failures especially when they do not hit their goals, its kind of comical how often it happens, it was always predictable!

They hire inexperienced agency people that have not a clue what is going on.

STAY AWAY YOU WILL THANK ME ONE DAY!

I worked at CBS Interactive as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Work on Entertainment sites, promos, interactive and Mobile for top television shows.
Work in the entertainment complex lot for shows, farmers market lunch nearby with the Grove.

    Cons

Senior Management has no experience in Interactive design workplace environment, & standards. Continual erosion of team morale with employee favoritism over quality of work. The main site is many years old and without a Creative Director that's capable to overhaul. (Creative Directors keep quitting.). No Bonuses, no promotions, bait & switch petty office politics. Passive-aggressive manager with poor skill set in control of the creative team. The top tier is led by senior management that has never had design experience and is from a Marketing background.
Designers know what this means to Creative. I cannot recommend this environment to an experienced professional.

    Advice to Management

You can improve the department by selecting experienced and proper candidates and appointing them to their perspective roles. Poorly skilled designers do not qualify to manage people with many years of experience. Learn what Interactive Design and UX is about. Familiarize yourself with the technology restrictions and current changes. Take a typography class & Design basics class. Be mindful of your workers and their capabilities and show respect for their work and avoid using favoritism to spark employee conflict.

    Cons

severe lack of communication within and between all levels of employees and departments, no one knows what the other one is doing or cares - extremely disorganized - Is anyone over there actually working?

    Advice to Management

If you're interested in working in Online Media, but only want to put in minimal effort, then this is the place for you.

    Cons

Zero challenge, whatsoever. Management is very hands off. Management also lacks talent and industry intelligence.

    Advice to Management

Just because you're CBS, doesn't mean you don't have to keep up with what is happening in the industry. "Good enough for Government work."

    Pros

The brands are highly recognizable. This makes CBS Interactive (esp CNET) an attractive place as a stepping stone to a different company.

    Cons

    - No career advancement if you are at any point but just starting your career
    - Failure of senior leadership to grow middle managers
    - Poor employee recognition
    - Middle managers provide terrible leadership and are politically concerned to the point where they show little to no concern for direct reports (this is systemic, no group appears to be immune).
    - Product development is weak. There is no focus and senior management appears incapable of correcting this despite recognition of the problem.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at middle management.
