I worked at CBS Interactive full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Exposure and understanding of how online media works; insight on how CBS works; you'll run into some good people and learn from them; good experience for someone starting out; and overall fair work/life balance.

    Cons

Compared to other tech companies, the benefits are sub par; compensation is on the lower end of most salaries in Silicon Valley; cliques; no mission or direction from executives; not much support from the parent company, CBS; and no innovation.

I have been working at CBS Interactive full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some really great people work here from the CNET.com and ZDNet families. It's in a great location south of Market, but not too far south. Cutting edge tech to play with all the time.

    Cons

There are some not-so-great attitudes to deal with.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on the politics, especially with some of the people who have worked there so long, they think they can do whatever they damn well please.

I have been working at CBS Interactive full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-The general feel is 9-5... punch-in, punch-out, good if you're into that
-Pretty relaxed atmosphere and some freebies but not like a lot of start-ups/tech companies in SF
-Most of the security staff is nice... most

    Cons

    -Politics
    -Behind on innovation... way behind
-Scared to try new things and provide resources in the right direction
    -Some managers are just bad
-The culture is old, and in many ways, lacks heart
    -Politics

    Advice to Management

Hopefully, a layoff here or there is providing for some cool upgrades on their next vacay

I worked at CBS Interactive full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Established company with guaranteed job security.
    - Well understood hierarchy.
    - Lot's of job opportunities.

    Cons

    - Low pay, especially for the Bay Area.
    - Less than average upward mobility within.
    - Lot's of red-tape. Difficult to make BIG individual contributions.

    Advice to Management

Loosen the shackles and allow for more brainstorming and ideas. Lot's of smart people with great ideas being held back due to old, linear management structure.

I worked at CBS Interactive as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture. Good for people with the creative type of jobs, Flexible timing and work from home is allowed most of the times.

    Cons

Tech stack is old. They are in the process of upgrade. Most of the people in team work from home so mentorship is less.

    Advice to Management

Management seems to be good. But is overloaded. Need to upgrade the tech stack. Need to improve UI so that sites will be more user-friendly.

    Pros

Really good people: smart and nice. Top 10 publisher, the only non-search or social site within Top 10. They have been working on company team building activities and trying to be fast-paced. CBS Corp and CBS interactive are really starting to work together.

    Cons

Given the large organization including CBS corporate, you aren't going to make much on stock options. That said, you also aren't going to have the risk of a startup failure.

    Advice to Management

Continue to push teams to move faster and continue to work closely with Les M and corporate.
