I worked at CBS Outdoor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is good and the hours are flexible. Management is also very helpful. The benefits were better than most places and the 401k program is great as well.

    Cons

It was difficult to find and develop new business being in a small market. This job would be easier and better paying in a bigger city.

Great management, left alone to perform your duties but given support whenever needed.

    Cons

Large company so simple things like getting IT or HR help can be more challenging than it should be.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

    Pros

It was an upbeat and challenging environment and I reported directly to a well respected GM who has more charisma than anyone I have ever met in my 25 year career.

    Cons

I wish that they had pushed me harder to succeed.

    Pros

Excellent group to work with and provides you a very good sense of other business environments. Your ability to understand the market place provides you a solid foundation for success. If you are not curious of business in general, you may have a hard time speaking to potential clients.

    Cons

Possible to outgrow position fairly quickly and rare horizontal movement between CBS corporation

    Advice to Management

Keep trusting your gut and not fall into traditional outdated management techniques.

I worked at CBS Outdoor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Established company with good name. Lots of experienced people to draw from. Good pay for the top tier/established folks. They clearly spell out all requirements for the job. Some of the young salespeople are totally rock stars and they are very impressive people to work with.

    Cons

You're on your own here if you're in sales -- no sales support people, no real help when it comes to CRMs or any other technological innovations (from 1999). The LA location was not the warmest bunch of salespeople on the planet. Every new person is treated as an interloper and potential competitor and is made to feel like they're an island unto themselves. Don't expect much in the way of training -- just go sell. You'll make some mistakes having to learn the products on your own, but most won't be fatal. Watch for massive overlap in cold calls (which you'll be doing a TON of) because the company refuses to use any kind of tracking/CRM system to let you know that the person you're calling as a new rep has been contacted 900 times before you have called -- or that they're already the client of an existing rep. You WILL upset people, and for some reason, management thinks that means you're doing your job, even if clients are perturbed by it. Plus, in a market as big as LA, good luck finding business that hasn't been mined six ways to Sunday already. The big dog salespeople take all the air out of the market well before you arrive.

    Advice to Management

Get into the 21st century with the CRM possibilities and training for new reps. You don't need to hold the sales people's hands, but you should set them up with all the best tools to help them succeed instead of just throwing them in the deep end without some support.

    Pros

Great media experience. You will make good connections.

    Cons

It is very tough to move up in the company, due to the large amount of employees who have a "tenure".

    Pros

If you want to keep your nose down, do your job, and leave at 4:45/5pm - this could be a decent place for you.

    Cons

If you like to drink large amounts of alcohol and brag about it on Monday morning, this is an ideal culture for you.

    Advice to Management

Culture could use a few more mature souls.

I have been working at CBS Outdoor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and coworkers. They love to have meeting about meeting. Selling time is restricted.

    Cons

Management wants to constantly change things. Including rates and client policies. This does not set well with business owners.

    Advice to Management

Roll your sleeves up and try doing some work. Maybe then you will know why thing happen the way they do. When you have a Sales Manager that does nothing but want to tell everyone how great he is and that he trained the trainer. What a joke!

    Pros

You create your own schedule, you have flexibility on who to call on and you create your success!

    Cons

The company is changing and there is a lot of uncertainty of what will happen to the industry in the Northern California area.
