I worked at CBS Radio full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Quality co-workers. Quality radio stations to sell. Quality OnAir talent.

    Cons

Management used to be toxic. The head guy running the company believed in ruling by instilling fear and unhealthy competition. He was once quoted with saying, "How to keep monkeys in line?...you shoot one of them!"

    Advice to Management

The management several years ago was toxic. I understand it's gone through a change and people are much more happy there. Management makes a difference. Positive energy and positive reinforcement matters; it creates a happy work environment (and decreases the complaining/gossiping that workers may do when they're unhappy.)

I have been working at CBS Radio full-time

    Pros

Access to concerts, work with colleagues who are very knowledgeable in the media industry, looks good on resume
If you learn how to sell air, you can sell anything!

    Cons

Lack of training, pay, traditional corporate structure, no chance for career advancement, high company turnover

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees by proper on-board training and pay them well.

I worked at CBS Radio full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of great brands under the CBS corp. umbrella that are easily recognizable. There is great exposure to top talent in the industry for amazing client partnerships and executions. Learned a lot about big publishers and selling big deals with a wide variety of products and opportunities for clients. Took away great experiences. Good compensation and benefits.

    Cons

There are a lot of internal politics as its a big company with lots of stakeholders for every decision. It can be frustrating because it is not the fastest moving or most tech savvy place to work. Lots of cross channel selling - too many sellers selling the same inventory.

    Advice to Management

Stop focussing on trying to launch so many new/different digital initiatives without true support for any of them. Focus more on long term success rather than short term gains.

I have been working at CBS Radio full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

These stations are the best in the business. Heritage, professionalism and some of the best people in the industry

    Cons

This is not a comment specific to CBS - but many of the bigger name companies are now driven by the bottom line to Wall Street - not to what is best or good for radio - and thus, the impact on the staff and advertisers is felt

    Advice to Management

STOP with the bottom line mentality and get back to what is good radio. You will need to spend some money to make money but the pros's out weigh the cons and in the long term, it's better for you

    Pros

Fun environment. Always new products to sell.

    Cons

Very corporate. Not a lot of work life balance. They want a minimum of 10 face to face calls per week which is not very realistic with the other demands of the job.

    Advice to Management

You don't need to micro manage senior and good sales people

I worked at CBS Radio full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable job for radio, good corporate structure, all the benefits perks of a large company.

    Cons

Poor local management; would rather blame corporate than take accountability.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on what's wrong and why you can't fix it, and more on finding solutions to entice, retain, and grow willing employees.
