I worked at CBS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - occasional parties and happy hours to help boost morale

    Cons

    - you had to fight for other roles in the company. i mean FIGHT. i had a manager tell me that he had other applicants coming into his office daily to try and secure the job in question. i guess applying, interviewing, checking in and prior experience with the company meant nothing.
    - very political and you basically have to know the right people to get anywhere.
    - sales people threw their weight around and barked orders

    Pros

The people are awesome. Management nurtures a fun company culture.

    Cons

Management like to set almost unrealistic sales goals which ultimately affected your bottom line as an employee.

I worked at CBS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fantastic corporate culture. Through many years of change, a genuine sense of teamwork has always persisted.
Despite a complex business, departments and teams are managed in such a way as to create a sense of place and purpose.

    Cons

It can be difficult to convince upper management to change, even when data exists to support such a notion. This might be a function of the complex nature of the business: for every analysis that can be done to support one conclusion, it's often possible to create compelling arguments to the contrary.

    Advice to Management

    Take risks.

    - Great offices (in New York, San Francisco)
    - Opportunities for expanding your skills
    - Can leverage the reach of CBS to promote products
    - Felt I made a difference

    Cons

    - A lot of stakeholders and bureaucracy to get things done
    - Continual upper management changes are distracting and work against momentum

    Advice to Management

Try to set a vision, strategy, and management team you can have faith in for more than 9 months
