    I worked at CD-adapco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great health insurance. Small company. Some very bright people employed. Excellent software.

    Cons

Pay not location based. 55-60 hr work week is expected with no overtime (40-45 hrs is supposedly poor performance). no 401k match. Too many employees in engineering dept on work visas (where they work long hours and have low pay scenario.... again). Insulting $50 dollar gift card for 5 years of service.

    Advice to Management

Pay NY or CA employees more than other lower cost of living offices. Stop replacing Americans with Indians on H1-B visa, and expecting Americans to work long hours and low pay like the Indians.

    I worked at CD-adapco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome first time job especially for fresh graduates looking for something. The workplace is casual and coworkers are very talented and helpful. You'll learn a lot in a short period of time. Opportunity to travel abroad.

    Cons

Poor benefits. Low salary, no bonus, no signing bonus, no 401k matching. Lots of politics and drama. Some incompetent leaders. No performance review, just a non-negotiable salary review. Insulting $50 gift after 5 years of service.

    Advice to Management

Review your middle management. Provide better benefits for employees. Don't expect employees to be loyal to the company if you don't treat them right.

I worked at CD-adapco (Less than a year)

    Pros

Diverse Exposure to various projects and applications in the Engineering department. Small goal oriented team. Exposure to in house modeling programs was a plus for industry experience

    Cons

Strict deadlines and unpaid overtime to meet the deadlines. In house programs were command base and thus efficiency was an issue at times. Productivity using the software highly depended on user programming abilities.

    I have been working at CD-adapco full-time

    Pros

Work can be interesting and workplace environment is generally pleasant. The more you show your competence the more likely you are to get interesting work. Good opportunity to travel worldwide.

    Cons

No 401k matching, potential to have to work a lot of unpaid overtime. You have to be proactive and ask for interesting work or more opportunity otherwise it is easy to get stuck in a repetitive cycle of doing the same types of projects over and over.

    Advice to Management

Interact with employees more, very rarely do I ever see my boss let alone have a conversation, usually I deal with supervisors and project leaders on a daily basis but very rarely am I engaged with my manager.

    I have been working at CD-adapco full-time

    Pros

Casual work environment, friendly coworkers and rapidly growing company. This Company has seen tremendous growth over the past 30 years but seems to be hitting their peak.

    Cons

NEPOTISM! Only family members are given top positions and with absolutely no merit! No 401k match, horrific annual raise schedule and rates. Did I mention how odd the owners are?

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to its competitor and cash out before your heirs ruin the company! At least the core business and its employees (those that remain) will have a shot at some decent benefits and a management team that knows that they're doing.

I have been working at CD-adapco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Results oriented management structure. Adaptable and ready to undertake new projects. Invests strongly in product development. Flexible work environment. Plenty of travel. Privately owned company that can make decisions, take risks, including the risk of an occasional mistake.

    Cons

Not many cons outside of the fact that working anywhere always has challenges. The pressure can be high, which is also a motivation. The pay is a little low for the expertise level.

    Advice to Management

Boost compensation. If you're worried about ongoing obligations, give out bonuses.

I have been working at CD-adapco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

CD-adapco is a good company to work for and learn, especially for those just coming out of school. The projects are fast paced and the learning curve is high. Company culture is very demanding so if you have a tough time drawing the line between work and life it will walk all over you. Pressure to meet deadlines can be high and people do burn out.

The work is challenging and there are many opportunities to tackle highly visible projects. It can get monotonous but you are free to carve your own niche, just make sure it's something you like to do. Much of the services work gets done using the company’s own software which means that you’ll be using it an expert level quickly. The people are excellent and take pride in their work. They will help you and share their knowledge. One of the few perks: no dress code.

The Melville office is the US headquarters and you may see the top brass on a daily basis if you work there. This gives the nice feeling you are working for a very small company, although I can’t say that they are too personable, just business. The CFD market and the company is also growing fast, so jump on before it’s too late.

    Cons

Salary is ok but not great, especially for the area, which is not the cheapest. No 401k matching and only two weeks of vacation to start means that many people move on after a few years. Stressful atmosphere doesn't help matters. I've seen many good people leave primarily for this last reason alone even though they enjoyed the work and people a great deal. The services group is very lateral and there is little room to grow beyond supervisor.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your people and align your interests with theirs. Recognize that they want to do a good job and have a life too.
