I have been working at CDC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits, liberal leave policy. Science-y types fit in well here.

    Cons

Promotions and awards based on youth, favoritism and your political viewpoint (liberals preferred). Awards based on your boss's motivation and have little or nothing to do with employee performance. Military service is not respected. "Managers" are mostly scientists with little or no leadership/soft skills.

    Cons

Processes can take a long time but that's just the nature of working at the federal level
