More Pros and Cons

  1. "Fun place to work, mediocre pay / on call scheduling."

I worked at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) (More than a year)

    Pros

When you apply, if you pass the interview, the job involved a lot of improvisation to sell different products in Costco. You had to be quick witted, polite and okay with being on your feet for 6 or 7 hours.

Best part of the job was probably the diverse customer base and getting to see hundreds of different families and interact with them while demonstrating products and providing samples.

You can really learn how to make a sales pitch in this job.

You can work any day you want, but can be called in for any shift on the days you are available.

Management was wonderful. I've never seen a manager on top of it, without picking favorites, but being understanding at the same time.

Everyone mostly minds their own business on the job, there is a bit of team work coming in and setting up, and closing up and ending shift. But most of it is you interacting with customers and managing the demonstration on your own, while supervisor makes sure everything is running and everyone is increasing sales for their demos.

    Cons

    Cons.

The pay is not really a job you can survive off of. It's great for students, older folks or people looking for sales experience.

Scheduling is a bit weird. When I worked there they wanted the workers available for all days, but would only give them 20 or so hours for the week. So a lot of "hey can you come in, in 30 minutes for a mid shift?" This was probably because of Obama Care charging employers extra for having employees work full time.

Lots of standing, people with back or foot problems shouldn't work here.

You've gotta have good customer service skills, people without patience for different backgrounds/cultures, or unhappy/rude customers should not work at CDS.

    Advice to Management

Advice to management? Nothing. You do most of what you can and do it well, it's been great working with you when I worked at the Commack, NY Costco.

I worked at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This job was great, for the most part its very easy. The job is mostly doing demonstrations, only occasionally supervising. Has great pay and paid training.

    Cons

At the store I worked at management sucked, really difficult to work with, very unprofessional and not the best at teaching the logistics part (which is the only hard part) I was not the only one to have this issue. Other employees also told me HR didn't do anything when they would complain.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the Lead supervisor isn't rude, while working here many employees complained about this issue. I was great at selling product, but no one wants to work for a jerk.

I have been working at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is nice and super helpful, I especially love the people I work with, they are willing to set aside what they're doing to help you.

    Cons

Very repetitive and gets boring at times. Dislike standing in one spot for 6 hours and repeating what I just did 2 hours ago

    Advice to Management

You guys are doing great, keep it up

I worked at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only good thing about this job is the pay, otherwise I recommend that you don't work here and find a job somewhere else

    Cons

    Standing with no mats
My boss was very sarcastic, rude and disrespectful
    Corporate doesn't care about you
    Not enough hours
Some of my coworkers had medical issues that were not be addressed
I had one coworker who was trying to make a complaint and got humiliated by the boss and laughed at

    Advice to Management

Don't hire management who are banned from the Costco warehouses, and don't hire sarcastic disrespectful managers who make employees very upset and mad everyday.

    Pros

    Great company to work for

    Cons

    Manager doesn't care about employees

    Advice to Management

Having a high rate of employees guiting because of not getting enough hours to work, does not look good on the business. Manager should coinside wprk with employee availability. Not every Costco is on a bus line that runs late and not all employees drive.

I worked at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility... but really only because hours were so sparse.

    Cons

Ludicrous micromanaging. Incredibly inefficient business model. I literally hated my life working here. I worked here part-time during my senior semester in business school and would actually look forward to going home to do homework after one of these shifts.

    Advice to Management

Do not treat your (80%+) elderly workforce like workhorses? There is NO need for this environment to be so high-strung? Yelling at 70 year olds to move faster, and not stop speaking, or for using the restroom? You're lucky they're probably too poor to afford legal counsel.

High starting salary, flexible time, and fun job.

    Cons

Would be nice if they can offer full time but over all, I'm happy with my job.

    Advice to Management

No favoritism cause it builds up animosity between the teammates.
