More Pros and Cons

  1. "Fun job to have on the side"

I have been working at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone at my location (both CDS and Costco employees) is amazing. Interacting with them throughout the day is what makes me actually look forward to my shifts.

Never completely slow -- you always have something to do whether it's talking to members, cooking, cleaning, etc.

Flexible and ideal as a secondary job.

And of course, a variety of food to try on your breaks!

    Cons

Not many hours -- this is definitely not meant to be a primary job. Around 2 workdays weekly on average unless it's a busy time of the year.

Members can feel overwhelming at times (crowd around you especially during cooking demos, act rude like grab half the tray at once and not even look up at you), but you get used to handling it.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up. Best team I've ever been a part of.

    Pros

Very good pay for the work required

    Cons

More and more micromanaging and additional responsibilities added as time goes on

    Advice to Management

    N/A

I have been working at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

flexible hours, Like the members and staff

    Cons

No inside benefits like a Christmas party or thanksgiving turkey. CDS is the Face of Costco we should be included more in-line with Costco..We make Costco a lot of money so it just seems right to have a few more of the Costco perks.. We demo the product why not give us a Costco card so we can buy it..

    Advice to Management

I would start sharing the profits with your advisors.. especially the top sales people.. it would show some appreciation for all the hard work.. Offer a few more perks since you don't offer benefits

I have been working at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good starting salary. $12.65 here on Long Island NY

    Cons

They cut nearly everyone back to 2 six hour shifts and inexplicably are still hiring new poeple although quality employees are begging for hours. Won't give us a reason. If you don't get Social Security or have another source of income it's rediculous

    Advice to Management

You know which of us put out 110%.
You know which of us try n sell and engage with the customers every minute of our 6 hr shifts. You know which of us goes above and beyond keeping good relationships with the COSTCO mgmt n personnel yet you won't give us enough hours to live on. There is no merit based formula that determines who gets more than 2 six hour shifts and it's sad. You keep the dead wood and you will lose the people who give it their all and SELL!

I worked at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing people, everyone knew each other and helped each other out.

    Cons

Power was unequally distributed. People were confused on what to do 70% of the time.

    Advice to Management

Carefully hire people. It is harsh hiring an individual then finding out that they were not a match for the company, thus, talking bad about them behind their backs.

I worked at CDS (Club Demonstration Services) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is ok. You get benefits and some holidays off. Sometimes you're on your own.

    Cons

Upper Management is a bit subjective. Has a solution for everything. Doesn't like to personally acknowledge managers, unless you're a favorite. Only care about their numbers. Treat your managers better so you can get better results.

    Advice to Management

Work on developing better relationships with ALL store managers. Allow some work/life balance as stated in the job post. We all have families, not just upper management, whom we would like to spend more time with.
