    Pros

Top notch consultants; especially the Principle Consultants can be counted as one of the best recruiters in town. The research team is one of the most capable, and led by a very talented manager. Fairly relaxed working environment without the usual shouting typical in a recruiting company.

    Cons

When I joined CDS, I was promised a lot of positives. This included a top notch research team, a dedicated headhunting team, efficient operations support, and a non-political environment. After entering, you start to realize that what they promise is only available in some teams, and not others. Also, it becomes apparent some people in the company are much more political than initially thought. There's a lot that happens under the surface, and everyone will hide behind fake smiles. I see a high potential for the corruption to start eating away within the organization.

    Pros

Great work Environment. The commission is great and you have a lot of freedom on a day to day basis. Their CRM is also fairly easy to use and straightforward. They also like to reward the employees

    Cons

Some of the management can be really hard headed when it comes to working certain clients. Resources are not always allocated fairly.

    Advice to Management

CDS is a great company and the CEO has done a great job at making a great work environment for top recruiters. However it's not really a place to learn the ropes.

    Pros

High quality people. Saying you're owned by Recruit makes business development easy, which is nice.

    Cons

Teams are way too big (over 20 people in IT alone! Reporting to one guy). If you want to fight for scraps at the bottom of the food chain, join CDS. Otherwise, join a company with small teams and actually have a decent chance of being successful.

    Advice to Management

Let your staff drink in the office. People work too hard to not relax with a beer once in a while.

I have been working at CDS (Japan) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked at two other well known recruitment firms in Tokyo and this is what I admire most about CDS
    - Autonomous working environment. Every consultant is given the freedom to manage their business and focus on our core mission. The company does not monitor activity based KPI's like phone calls or meetings. The company emphasizes revenue and quality work with clients.
    - Company has a good attitude towards work life balance. Freedom to take time off when needed.
    - The office is unique, well-designed and is a very comfortable place to work.
    - The staff is motivated, mature and polished. Working with these types of colleagues is motivation for improvement.
    - Excellent compensation scheme which is upfront and clear.
    - Great perks and incentives like company trips, meals and shopping vouchers. Expense account is helpful.
    - CDS has a very good reputation in the market which makes client development much easier.

    Cons

    - It is a competitive working environment with several high performing consultants. You will find yourself putting pressure on yourself to keep up and contribute.
    - The company sometimes gets caught up in reporting, operations and administration.
    - Work as a consultant in general requires your attention even during off hours. Requires self-discipline in managing your time.

    Advice to Management

The management team did a great thing a few years back in allowing its consultants to take on more responsibility in growing the company. Please continue to do this as it makes the company an enjoyable place to work.

I worked at CDS (Japan) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great bunch of people who are professional and supportive. Some very impressive top billers, and a good mix of Japanese and Foreigners. Strong brand name for candidates and global presence with local execution for clients. Decent lead sharing across the Recruit businesses in Asia. Strong comp plan for the market.

    Cons

Lots of direction change in the last few years as Recruit is trying to figure out where CDS will sit. Local CEO does not come from a recruitment background and is only focused on budget and internal numbers rather than business development or meeting with clients.

    Advice to Management

Keep the comp plan the same to retain top consultants, focus on business development at a senior level. Sort out the database.

    Pros

The ability to grow and meet new people, very different from any jobs in a situated place of work. Ability to be neutral

    Cons

Talk to the people, better feedback of the problems at hand. More appraisal to entire staff, letting people know there proper roles.

    Advice to Management

More interaction with staff and the issues that they have. Possess abilities in the soft skills and help others grow.

    Pros

The atmosphere is the key. Always positive and supportive. Fast paced and cutting edge. The company is performing very well.

    Cons

High pressure environment in recruitment. Open floor plan, so everyone sits in the same workspace.

    Advice to Management

Business is going very well, so it's hard to think about what to change.
