I worked at CDW full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

pastries every Tuesday. I know, that is pathetic.

    Cons

I have been there nearly 17 years. I have a laundry list of complaints which includes pay, coworkers, management from the very top to the bottom.

    Advice to Management

How about a higher pay rate instead of the "competitive salary" rhetoric that we keep hearing. Such ambiguous language makes for an unhappy employee. Competitive salaries fall into a bell curve. Why should CDW coworkers be on the lower end of that "competitive" curve?

    More can be said.

I have been working at CDW full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits. Leadership makes themselves open and available to their employees. Friendly environment. Lots of room for growth. I never feel like I am out of the loop on anything going on.

    Cons

Pay is a little below the medium for warehouses. Getting in there is difficult because most people stay there once they are hired so you either need to know someone or go through being a contractor.

    Advice to Management

Not yet, but if I did I know they would listen to me.

I have been working at CDW full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay if you work hard. If you efforts are high, you will get rewarded by getting assigned larger accounts that may make you more $. Perks such as cubs suites, fancy dinners, blackhawks tickets are frequent.

    Cons

Compensation in the beginning is a joke at $30K base... but in years past, you raise to six figures within 3yrs if you are driven. Recently, CDW has decided to scale back on the spiffs causing compensation to level out and decrease to meet more of the industry standard. This will likely more many high producers to look elsewhere as they have built a life on being compensated generously for high performance.

    Advice to Management

Don't cap spiffs. Or, if that is the route that the company chooses to go, raise the base salary to meet the level of output an individual brings to the company.

I have been working at CDW full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance, Pay is very fare, Amazing Leadership, Resources are all around you to help you succeed, Growth opportunity's within the company regularly. I personally started off in sales and enjoyed being a CDW Account Manager for 4 years. Recently moved to the Solutions Specialist role and it's been a very smooth transition. CDW gets IT and I would recommend working here to anyone who is looking for a company who truly cares about their co-workers. Great benefits and loads fun work perks regularly.

    Cons

I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about CDW.

    Advice to Management

CDW encourages its coworkers to continued internal growth and will pay for a VERY large portion of schooling for those who want further their education.

    Pros

Intensive training, great partner relationships, great culture, opportunity is endless, lots of benefits, lots of free lunches, fun events, strong desire for coworkers to do well

    Cons

Hit the phone hard, dial dial dial. It's hard to have a place to your own so you can talk to your customers without having a bunch of background noise

I have been working at CDW full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, and somewhat flexible hours in sales if you're established. CDW is a market leader which helps gain access to clients. Wide portfolio mix and ability to create customer value in a number of areas.

    Cons

They've done a very poor job of developing the next generation of sales reps. Almost no one is making it past the 4 year mark. They're more reliant than ever on senior reps for success, and have made pay cuts in several key areas of sales to subsidize new reps.

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting commissions and redistributing to the younger generation who is underperforming. Start recognizing that the industry is changing (more cloud/service provider driven) and profitability is the true measure of success--not legacy revenue streams.

I worked at CDW full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you are down with sales, this is a good company for you. Great learning opportunities and incentives.

    Cons

In a word, Competitive. As all sales jobs are, this one is no different.

Women typically tend not to stay long. Just to give you an idea of the caliber of people that are on the sales floor, and those who stay are

Incentives are diminishing as would be expected.

It is rare to go into another business unit from a sales role, they are likely to hire someone from outside.

    Advice to Management

This is one of the top companies in its industry albeit a declining industry.

Management is obviously doing its best to stay competitive and relevant.

Company is soon to be obsolete.. best advice for management is to secure your role or get out while you still can.
