I have been working at CDW (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Lunches from business partners
    Happy hours from business partners

    Cons

    Very low pay
Snarky remarks made if you leave the office at 5:00PM instead of staying an extra hour or so
The fact that they continually hire new account managers a few times every year is telling.

    Advice to Management

Raise commissions for current employees, giving them incentive to stay with the company for a longer period of time.

    Pros

    Good work/life balance
No one gets fired (thats a big negative too!)
    Form great relationships

    Cons

Managers have no experience and it shows
Mostly friends of managers, directors get promoted

    Advice to Management

Change how you treat your top performers .
Lots of employees waiting for IPO and will then leave

I have been working at CDW full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Training, Decent Benefits plenty of free lunches nad perks from vendors

    Cons

Salary is an absolute joke no education required to work as an Account Manager, Comp Plan is awful and turnover is extremely high. Might make money if you wait several years and get a good account or 2 when people start to leave with the IPO. Get your training stay for a year or two then get out ASAP!

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees, recruit actual talent not just college kids willing to take a 25k base salary, give newer account managers some decent accounts if they prove themselves within the first year or you will never retain any talent

    Pros

Good training program, good for gaining experience, benefits/perks/free stuff (trips, food at work, etc.), work/life balance

    Cons

Garbage pay that gets tougher over time, some segments better than others, limited sales territories, managers playing favorites, unhelpful internal resources, college jock culture

    Advice to Management

I know of no other company that makes their pay scale worse over time, reward people who do well instead of punishing them.

Despite what you say, some segments and territories are better than others. Judge people on their merits instead of playing favorites. Despite hitting my sales goals consistently and improving my touch numbers over time, I watched as kids who proved nothing came in and got lucrative accounts. Hence why I left.

I worked at CDW full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn. They have great people working here. Both in management and base level. If you work hard you can make decent money here. This is a great name to have on your resume.

    Cons

Base pay was crummy, hard to get new accounts / grow accounts in the government side of things. To focused on metrics instead of results.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Improve the base pay and get some quality people in. The shotgun approach of getting people in with low ball salaries is tough.

I have been working at CDW full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I am in technology sales so there is always something new to speak with the customer about. Great young company - average age is between 25 and 29. Just went public.

    Cons

Same as any sales - compensation. This negative is not even about the pay - it is about the commissions an Account Manager should keep. They do not always let you keep what you earned.

    Advice to Management

Just let account managers keep a higher portion of their commissions. Other than that, no gripes.

I worked at CDW full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work atmosphere, esp with free lunches, random perks, etc. management is easy going and atmosphere is laid back.

    Cons

P The pay is not comparable to other companies in the area, especially for the position that I was in, which was contract analyst.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees much more, do a complete overhaul of the middle management, as most middle-management are unqualified and should not be in their positions at CDW.

I worked at CDW full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is a great opportunity to make a lot of money, not travel and work 8-5. There is also opportunity for lateral movement to other departments or getting into one of the partners. It all depends what you want to do and making it happen.

    Cons

It gets boring. You do the same thing most of the time and it can get annoying feeling like you're a customer service rep at times. Additionally, there can be a bit of a frat mentality.

    Advice to Management

More focus and development on remote offices.

    Pros

Easy hours. Fun people. Lot of free lunches and happy hours. Easy quota. Lots of fun events and trips

    Cons

It can be difficult to make money. Can be very boring at times. A lot of pretending to work. Low base salary

    Advice to Management

Don't micromanage your employees so hard because it comes off as annoying and distracting. Give employees more opportunities.
