Account Manager
Jul 27, 2016 - Corporate Account Manager in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company provides great training and has a wonderful corporate culture. Coworkers become great friends very quickly and easily. Lots of opportunities to expand within the company
Cons
Poor work/life balance and partners tend to be overwhelmed and don't provide quick answers. Being a reseller means many people are involved with sales and its easy for human error to effect sales.

It is a SALES organization - numbers matter not your work quality
Dec 7, 2009 -RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Ability to work from home for remote employees. Good training in your practice area (for tech employees). Friendly work atmosphere (for remote employees) with ability to have good life/work balance.
Cons
This is a sales organization - no matter how your customers like you and your professional advice if you do not do your monthly numbers - you are out. As a technology consultant you are dependent on account managers and account executives to provide you leads and customer engagement opportunities. Yet your management sets for you a quota you must meet even when your account mangers provide you 0 leads. Middle management (some of them at least) tends to play in 'broken phone' and blamestorming without any desire to understand what is really going on during engagement process. Horrible benefits: expect that for HMO you will be paying appx 70% of insurance costs - several hundred after tax $ for married healthy couple with no kids.

Its sales so it is fast paced and work life balance is difficult at times.

CDW had best year in 2010 by making their works each do 3 their workload and kept all profits!
Oct 27, 2011 -RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
CDW is a well known company throughout the US and has great opportunities for entry level sales people that are motivated to work hard.
Cons
CDW is management heavy. They reward management for their employees good work. Managers get bonus when the employees lost 401K, no reviews. CDW had a layoff in 2008 and as CDW continue to grow they did not rehire the people they lost, they required all their people to work more with less. They announced the 2010 greatest year in CDW history with decreased benefits for their employees and no work life balance.

Hardwork, slow start, long term project for workaholics
Feb 24, 2021 - Account Representative in Etobicoke, ONRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Good culture - Commission scales with achievement and tenure - High earning potential - Good training - The start of this job is like chewing glass everyday for two years. If you can get over the hump, there's greener pastures (ie loads of money) on the other side.
Cons
- Work life balance; if you want to truly see success you need to put in 12 hour days and grind really hard throughout the day. This job will probably take over your life. - Unrealistic expectations, your targets scale each month based on your growth and previous years earning with that account. If that account made a huge purchase last year but buys nothing this year, good chance you won't make target (some commission clips are based on achieving target instead of gross profit percentage) - Benefits are pretty average. - Start at 8:00am, unpaid lunch. - They schedule constant trainings that clog up your precious time to reply to customer requests/call blocks (lots of them are super useless) - First class to get trained remotely, this job would be difficult in an office environment, but they haven't set up appropriate resources for new candidates working remotely. Extremely difficult to navigate the endless always changing processes without a team, or manager that can answer questions quickly throughout the day. Instead having to send emails constantly, waiting for replies before being able to get back to customers and managing that in an inbox was a nightmare.

Finance Roles at CDW
Apr 24, 2014 - Management - Finance in Vernon Hills, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
At CDW you truly have the opportunity to act as an entrepreneur no matter what your role. Sr. Leaders allow you and support you in your ideas. I have had the ability to create new roles as well as hire new people based on my recommendations and needs of the organization. There is also a great work life balance as long as you prove that you are a high performer. All Sr. Leaders are extremely approachable and here you will be working directly with them and they will come directly to you. There is very little 'red-tape' that one has to go through. With that being said, those who are not able to effectively communicate to leaders may have challenges, but those who succeed, will move up fast.
Cons
The organization at times is what I would call very "siloed" It is difficult to move across teams or groups, but on a good note, it is mostly due to leaders wanting to hold on to their talent. CDW does have a competitive culture which is good, but at times it may hold you back from other experiences or roles.

Pros
Growth in your job as you mature with the company. Community is so important and we have a very loving and accepting community of coworkers. Work/Life Balance is very important and CDW make sure they take that into consideration with their employees.
Cons
I don't have cons but if I have to suggest one, it would be to push for promotions more then twice a year. A lot of people work for a year or more in the role they want to move into before getting that title and pay.
