    Pros

Employees have the opportunity to prove their worth to the employer. No good old boy mentality and prejudice is shunned.

    Cons

Cement manufacturing is mentally and physically taxing. Workaholics get ahead because vacation is not encouraged.

    Advice to Management

Strike a balance. To preserve good employees go ahead and add relief staff to production instead of adding that duty to other faculty.

I worked at CEMEX (USA) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not very much, family oriented, strong focus on safety, it was great the first 2 months I worked there

    Cons

Long hours, low pay, my current placement is poorly run. The manager is unkind to employees, and uses manual labor as a punishment when he is unhappy with you.

    Advice to Management

Take a closer look at how plants are run.

I worked at CEMEX (USA) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security, company size. Company is world wide, so moving and continuing employment is a possibility. Management is usually friendly.

    Cons

Continual changes in procedures, etc. frequently adding paperwork and reports (to be completed) on top of employees job description. It slows do productivity and increases job stress.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees issues and make changes accordingly. Stop adding work to the work already being done. Way too much time is being spent on unnecessary paperwork, that has absolutely nothing to do with completing the actual tasks at hand.

I have been working at CEMEX (USA) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

*Cemex has plentiful work thats keeps you busy all year around.

    * Very good benefits for you and your family.

    * Very Good equipment. New and used trucks and they do a great job maintaining them.

    *Safety oriented. Paid training

    * They have over 15 plants throughout the Houstonland area so it convenient to commute from work to home.

    * 2 weeks vacation

Sign on bonus that broken up throughout the year. Up to $5,000 for the first year only.

Plenty of uniforms with laundry service provided.

Guarantee 40 hours of a based hr pay for days that are cut short because rain outs, or slow business week.

    Cons

*They pay their drivers by the load and Chinese overtime, NOT BY THE HOUR! Which makes the job competitive and stressful when working long hours.

*Did i mention long hours? Cemex run their drivers 40-65 every week.

    * Cemex drivers aren't allowed to take brakes during working hours and aren't allow to stop to get food or anything while in the truck.

    *Horrible Dispatching and favoritism.

*Every day that you work, you have to call in to an automatic scheduling system the night before to find out what time you are to start work as early as 2am- 9am to start your day and they have the right to work you up to 15hrs twice a week and 14hr the rest or the week to utilize a drivers 70 hour work week...

*The Management philosophy is outdated and un-effective basically the Drivers and the batchmen can easily the plants.

**No Wet Loads! If a driver delivers a wet load to a customer that can't be used, cemex garnish and docs that drivers check. They deduct $7 off ever load, for 30 consecutive loads for his mistake or miscalculation!**

*Needless to say, the employee turnover rate is ridiculous.

*Upper Management nor HR doesn't seem to appreciate nor compensate their drivers properly for the great job that they do and the long that work. SMH.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your drivers, they've already been taken care of you! They are the heart and soul of what it is we do so why not do more for them. Part of being a good manager or what makes good management is being a good leader and knowing how to boost Employees morality! Look for better ways to compensate the driver and it doesn't have to be just increasing salaries (Still, this must be done). Here are some options...

    * 3 weeks vacation instead of two. Cemex drivers put in a lot of hours working throughout the year. One week for a scheduled vacation and break up the other 5 days throughout the year in not enough. What's 5 more days gonna hurt?

    * Christmas or an end of the years party for the employees! Lets us to celebrate in the company's success and all the hard work we all put into throughout the year.

Christmas bonus! Why not!? What a great gesture to give back to your employees to show your appreciation. Give to them so they may in turn, give to their families.

    * Employee of the month program is so underrated and underutilized in Corporate American these days.

    Get the picture!

    Pros

Strong Safety Division, Good Healthcare Benefits, Passionate co-workers,

    Cons

Limited internal mobility, Limited transparency, Hierarchical structure (don't question decisions at the top), Micro-managed from VP level down, Reactive (wait until something breaks to fix despite earlier warnings), Low Pay.

Trust your employees to do the work you hired them for. It is cheaper to remedy a future problem than to repair it after it breaks.
