    Pros

Innovative, cutting-edge technologies, passion for the future

    Cons

If you don't know the right person, you have almost no chance of getting a long-term job or permanent contract, no matter how good you are.

    Advice to Management

Open the applications for the outside world, before you determine them internally in order to preserve the appearance.

I have been working at CERN full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The culture at CERN is pretty terrific, the people here take their work very seriously, with real curiosity and passion. It really is cool to be working on the frontier of physics. Collaboration is important here.

    Cons

Unfortunately the age of CERN means a lot of the technology is what could charitably be classed as "legacy". You could end up working on software that should've went away with the Aztecs. As a software engineer I've often found myself in a development silo, which is to say I've been given a project and expected to go away and just do it; without much in the way of feedback. If you like working by yourself, that should...

There should be an official and endorsed LGBTQ+ club.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at CERN full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Good salary (free of income tax) - Long paid holidays - Good work-life balance, no need for overtime

    Cons

General: - Incompetent, inconsiderate and/or shortsighted management - Very hierarchical management, no meaningful feedback can be given to the real decision-makers. Top management seems to be very detached from real workers - Few indefinite contracts. no long-term career prospect - Bad working conditions, old offices, noisy environment, very hot offices in the summer - Many incompetent and/or demotivated people...

    Advice to Management

Start to improve the competence of managers and the work conditions. Given the high salaries, a lot of money is wasted due to poor work conditions. Don't let people on indefinite contracts not doing anything, just because they know they cannot be fired.

I have been working at CERN full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Great conditions for research, few distractions or additional admin to do, a very diverse place where there is always tons going on - from physics to outreach to seminars and courses. The food is very good as well. It's a plus to know that you are part of this wonderful organization.

    Cons

Offices are a bit shabby, but there are renovation works all around (then you have drilling noises). Possibility of getting a permanent job is almost nonexistent.
