I have been working at CFA Institute full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Outstanding benefits and culture. Especially for an event planner, this place is a dream and this position is a rare unicorn you won't find anywhere else. My standard day is 8 AM - 5 PM, I work maybe 5 nights/weekends in an entire year! The cafeteria is delicious, abundant in options, and subsidized by the company to make it oh so affordable. They host an annual employee picnic, casino/bingo tournament, holiday party, children's winter party, and bowling tournament to appreciate and network with colleagues. Management is the best I've ever had, and I always feel like I've had great managers. This organization is extremely supportive and really listens to employee feedback.

    Cons

There are individuals who have worked here for many many years that have become a little numb to all the great benefits.

I have been working at CFA Institute full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Inspiring, motivating new leadership under Marg Franklin. Opportunities to learn new technology and business ideas and processes. Kind, helpful, professional colleagues who enable you to do your best work. Very strong benefits including high quality healthcare with minimal employee contribution, onsite cafe provides reasonably-priced healthy breakfast and lunch options, large 401K contribution not tied to matching and soon with no vesting period, free parking downtown, remarkable maternity/paternity leave, etc. etc.

    Cons

May not be the right cultural fit for people who are not adaptive to change or not wanting to put in much effort

I worked at CFA Institute full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The CFA Institute has a beautiful, modern office with a great cafe fairly close to the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville. Work/life balance and benefits are good, pay is above-average for the area, and it does attempt to incorporate the latest in marketing and IT software and methods, along with sending employees to annual seminars and symposiums.

    Cons

There are reorganizations that do not make sense to the point where some people have no clue what their roles cover - but everyone gets an "important" title (Head, Director, Manager). And the CFA Institute, unfortunately, is marred by a corporate, elitist atmosphere and snobbish people and an open office plan where you cannot escape from them. Perhaps this is due to the global nature of the organization and the wealthy individuals to whom it caters, or a microcosm of the investment management field in general, but it does not need to carry over to the everyday operation. Also, unless you consider blonde, brunette, and redhead to be ethnic groups, or include the Indian contractors, the CFA Institute is woefully lacking in diversity. African American, Latino, and Asian employees are few and far between, which is ironic for an organization that is now seeing the majority of its candidates come from India and China, and a city in Charlottesville with a major public university but that is still reeling from a violent fascist march less than two years ago.

    Pros

I worked at CFA Institute full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Important mission, great exposure and level of responsibilities, attractive compensation , collegial atmosphere and many truly dedicated, smart and pleasant workmates. Truly global workforce and numerous opportunities to travel and interact with stakeholders in multiple countries.

    Cons

Too much disruptive and not adequately justified change and constant restructuring of teams, not a meritocracy- promotions are open to only certain parts of the organisation.
