I have been working at CGI (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to start your career as a new college hire. Good people, good support system, flexible schedule, stock purchase plan is great!

    Cons

Can be a shortage of work in some projects leading to idle time, mobility within the company should be made easier. Opportunities to move up are there, but could be better.

    Advice to Management

Pay people more (bonuses and raises should be more frequent). Make it easier to move around.

I have been working at CGI (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As a large company, there are many opportunities to work on a variety of different projects. There are also many opportunities to work with senior management and people with different skill sets. CGI offers more flexibility in shifting to new roles-technical roles to project management roles, for example. CGI is also very flexible and allows employees to work remotely.

    Cons

There is a lack of mentoring at CGI so there is a lot of self teaching involved. This is fine if you are lucky enough to get a good manager who can suggest training or if you get on good projects. As with any large company, office politics and relationships with senior management often complicate projects more than necessary.

    Advice to Management

Management is very good at communicating with all employees about how the company is doing.

I have been working at CGI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The beat part about CGI is the work life balance, culture, and co-workers. It can be very relaxed at times and the people make it worth it.

    Cons

Management are very busy in their daily tasks they rarely feel connected to the teams on the floor. A big con is the compensation, CGI prices low to win bids which causes the salaries to be lower than industry. The company is slowly growing but not sure they are keeping standards the same as before when they were much smaller.

    Advice to Management

Really get to know who you are hiring and ask yourself are they a good fit to lead our comapny.

I worked at CGI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-many projects available across the country and around the globe.
-I had a great manager who made my experience there as good as possible.
    -Many nice and smart people.

    Cons

    -Work life balance
-The business unit structure caused ERP implementations to be difficult because every ERP project had a majority of new to ERP members. Always reinventing the wheel on each and every project instead of refining the delivery process every time.
    -burnout

    Advice to Management

The business unit model incentivizes the business unit to staff projects with their own team members which may not have experience on these types of projects which hurts the project. The ipod/bsod or whatever they are calling it group of ERP experts ends up having to train the local business unit team and then after the project the local business unit people leave the project saying they will never do another ERP project. Meanwhile the ERP experts go onto another project and train another team who will swear of ERP projects in the future. Projects should get easier with time but they don't.

I have been working at CGI (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people for the most part, smart, international staff.

    Cons

HDP health insurance, lack of coordination at times. Too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak.

    Advice to Management

It really would take too long to explain. There are some VERY good managers at CGI. But also some VERY poor ones who are in positions to affect a lot of careers.

I worked at CGI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good launch pad to start your career and opportunities to engage in hands-on technical delivery.

    Cons

Like several other big companies, experience depends on the team alignment. There are teams that really look after their people, while others that are more concerned with staffing and utilization.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the people. Don't just say it, do it. Make a concerted effort to evaluate if top-talent is growing at an acceptable pace.
