I worked at CGI full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent starting salary. Nice people. Nice office. Seems like if you buy into the whole culture they set up there is a decent amount of opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

Deceptive recruiting. Job I was hired for was advertised as C++, Java, and SQL development. It ended up basically being a help desk job. No coding at all. One of the things I was tasked with was burning cd's for clients. If you're a recent Computer Science grad dont even consider this if you want a job coding.

    Advice to Management

Dont let HR post deceptive job listings. You know what the job is going to be so dont try and dress it up nicely to attract programmers.

I worked at CGI full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

CGI has lots of long-term contracts and is a very big corporation itself. Employees are paid every two weeks and employee benefits are very good. Employees can be confident that they will be paid on-time every 2 weeks and are provided health care, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance. One of the best benefits is a stock purchase plan in which the company matches employee contributions up to 3% of the employee's salaries.

    Cons

Many of the managers and directors have been with the organization for a long time. And they do not relate well to young and/or talented employees. Moreover, many of the managers and directors focus more on the status quo than the future and many are closed minded to new ideas. Much of the work can be very tedious and monotonous... many employees find the work to be quite boring. Senior consultants are typically hired for a specific role on a specific account. And it is difficult to move to a role on another account. Communications between accounts is very limited and most employees will only communicate with other employees on their own account. And as an employee, there is very little feeling of belonging to a team and being able to help the company be successful. Company retention is poor, and attrition of talented employees is a problem.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your employees more often and talk to them in a way that is relevant to them. Be open to suggestions from employees and reward creatively and innovation.

I have been working at CGI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Really this is a offshoring company without nighttime calls.
    Frequent Lunches!

    Cons

HR DEPT is pathetic. If your project is completed then you are on your own, a lot of people think looking at size of company that there will be some process to keep you on bench and help you find other projects. There is no Growth internally. Projects are maanged terriblly by technical reources from India, who became managers because they couldnt keep up with technology. Lot of micromanagement , Adhoc decisions, I saw managers call underperforming teammembers STUPID/LAZY/ USELESS in the meetings ., Just pathetic.

    Advice to Management

Please ensure everyone is treated respectfully.
Employees who work for your company have Familys please have a decent Healthplan. Insurance plans with 10,000 Deductable are joke.
Yo have to have a plan for employees to grow.

I worked at CGI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to work with lots of smart people
You have access to a wide range of technical and subject-matter experts
Many employees have opportunity to work from home

    Cons

Employees spend a lot of time on things (e.g., status reports, surveys) seemingly for the sake of it. There is scant evidence that such information is reviewed or that resulting action is taken.
Employees are expected to work long hours.
HR practices are sound, but are not frequently followed by management.

    Advice to Management

Think/act for the longer-term. To maintain a strategy of growth through acquisition, you need to improve the cultural integration process.

I have been working at CGI (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location! Going against traffic in the morning. They might pay for you Top Secret Clearance. CGI Federal is separate from CGI

    Cons

Benefits are expensive! No paid leave until 1 year anniversary. No short term disability. No annual increase no bonus.

    Advice to Management

Need more support to employees. Nothing is in the best interest of the employees.
