I worked at CGI full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If ambitious, CGI really allows you to grow. I started at CGI as an entry-level programmer and filled many roles during my tenure, including business analysts, systems analyst and defect manager. CGI allows for mentorship and really provides opportunities to learn. Additionally, there is an opportunity for work/life balance.

    Cons

There is not always a clear career path, but again there are opportunities to grow within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Focus on entry level members and make them feel a part of the company. I think over the years there has been a disconnect between new members and the rest of the company.

I worked at CGI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My experience with co-workers and managers was very positive. Communication was open and respectful. The leadership team encouraged innovation where possible and genuinely tried to balance work and life activities. Cost-effective ideas were always welcome. Benefits were actually quite good, especially the stock program.

    Cons

Salary will likely be on the low end with annual increases also on the low end. Changing job roles is difficult, too.

    Advice to Management

Consider raising salaries closer to the 'mean', not median.

I have been working at CGI (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As a large company, there are many opportunities to work on a variety of different projects. There are also many opportunities to work with senior management and people with different skill sets. CGI offers more flexibility in shifting to new roles-technical roles to project management roles, for example. CGI is also very flexible and allows employees to work remotely.

    Cons

There is a lack of mentoring at CGI so there is a lot of self teaching involved. This is fine if you are lucky enough to get a good manager who can suggest training or if you get on good projects. As with any large company, office politics and relationships with senior management often complicate projects more than necessary.

    Advice to Management

Management is very good at communicating with all employees about how the company is doing.

I have been working at CGI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The beat part about CGI is the work life balance, culture, and co-workers. It can be very relaxed at times and the people make it worth it.

    Cons

Management are very busy in their daily tasks they rarely feel connected to the teams on the floor. A big con is the compensation, CGI prices low to win bids which causes the salaries to be lower than industry. The company is slowly growing but not sure they are keeping standards the same as before when they were much smaller.

    Advice to Management

Really get to know who you are hiring and ask yourself are they a good fit to lead our comapny.

I worked at CGI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good launch pad to start your career and opportunities to engage in hands-on technical delivery.

    Cons

Like several other big companies, experience depends on the team alignment. There are teams that really look after their people, while others that are more concerned with staffing and utilization.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the people. Don't just say it, do it. Make a concerted effort to evaluate if top-talent is growing at an acceptable pace.
