Cons
I66 Management is ridiculous. A PM who has absolutely no idea - he's not even an engineer - and a business manager who has been continuously described by the client as incompetent and useless. It weighs heavy on me to hear the client saying " is this really ch2m?"

Poor Leadership
May 23, 2016 - Anonymous Employee in Englewood, CORecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There are still lot of really good people to work with, and some very interesting assignments to work on.
Cons
“Band-aid” solutions under this CEO. Stockholders losing faith in Leadership? Find new stockholders. (It’s way too much work to fix the problems that lead to the loss of faith. That whole employee ownership things is nuisance anyway.) Slumping sales? A new logo and shorter name is the obvious fix, here! (No need to actually change the way we serve customers.) Cash flow issues? Lean on the employees to use their PTO, work more hours, and then tell them to give up comp time…after you had them use up their PTO. Oops! Then are your employees dissatisfied and saying as much? Have an all hands meeting with no solutions, lots of cheerleading, and where you tell everyone not to allow others to say anything negative. Etcetera. Program delivery manager who loses money is sent packing, but a corporate IT project runs 200% over budget and gets awards and accolades. How about a massive plan to reconfigure all the cubicles so we can fit more people in the building, followed immediately by massive staff reductions leaving a ghost town?

Pros
The company has had a strong historic reputation for technical excellence and leadership in key areas. For many years it was among the most desired and sought-after companies to work for by engineering and other technical discipline experts. It's legacy of excellence remains an asset.
Cons
Financial problems and turnover in senior leadership have taken its toll. The leadership has adopted the model of its less accomplished but larger peers. It has abandoned the notion of career building for its employees. It has taken the position that only the most senior executives are worthy of bonuses; that in effect everyone else is a replaceable widget. The world is littered with the mediocre that are neither difference makers nor highly profitable. CH2M seems determined to want to join that them. As someone who helped build the company from a regional to national to international firm, that is lamentable.

How can a great company go so bad so quickly
Jun 28, 2016 - Project Manager in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company provides flexible work hours.
Cons
I joined CH2M at the tail end of the company's long stretch of strong reputation and great workplace. Since the last founder died around 2009/10 the company completely lost its way, probably with no recovery from what it once was as it has been already partially sold out to a venture capitalists in order to rescue it. The company is management bloated. Not only too much management, but management that does not understand people and with no passion for the work. I could write pages here on the problems and issues that the company faces, but all I will say is that if you need a job to pay the mortgage, go for it but not a long term career company. You will have no prospects for advancements if you are not white, american born and male.
