    Used to be Better

Jul 19, 2017 - Proposal Manager in Milwaukee, WI

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good work/life balance if you managed your work well. Great team. Very smart, dedicated people making a difference for each other, the company, and their clients. Work from home option was great. The work was interesting and challenging.

    Cons

The pay was low for the hours that needed to be worked. Dwindling staff numbers created an increase in work for the people that remain. Morale was low due to low or non-existent raises, poor communication from the top-down, and an increase in need for job dedication, all while laying people off.

    Pros

Work life balance. Technically experienced staff. Challenging and fun projects. Compassionate colleagues.

    Cons

Negligible mentoring and career development. Client connections and/or being well-connected to someone in upper management seem to be requirements to career advancement. If you are light on work, you are expected to 'donate' your time.

    Pros

Focus is on making a better world which of course, GREAT! People are some of the best in the world at what they do. Work/Life balance attitude is the best in their industry.

    Cons

Executive leadership is failing the employees by not being able to grow in the primary industries due to out of date project execution strategies. CEO has to make selling/merging the Company the #1 priority and lose the swagger of years gone by.

    Great Work/Life Balance, Good Location

Apr 2, 2017 - Water Engineer I in Denver, CO
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The people are great, they know their stuff and are passionate about their career. Lots of opportunities for training, conferences, and inter-company networks for support. The location is right off I-25 and C-470 so it's easy to get to from all directions. Everyone sits in cubicles so everyone seems easily accessible. Lots of ways to know where people are and how to reach them if they are working from home. Café and gym on location. Safety is promoted as a strong value and there isn't pressure to work over 80 hours every 2 weeks. Work life balance is promoted as another strong value and burning or from overworking is discouraged.

    Cons

Pressure to be 100% billable reduces opportunities for mentoring and other non-billable activities. Due to how many people work from home or other offices, it can be hard to get ahold of people in person. The re-org has disconnected a lot of networks and connections that were important for many reasons, including distributing workload and making sure those reviewing us were in the same office as us.
