    Pros

This is a good place to gain experience if you are a new nurse. Management doesn't support tenured nurses. Most of the good nurses leave after 1 to 2 years. But if you want to get education money to finish your BSN and/or enough experience for your next job. This is the place to gain/obtain that experience.

    Cons

You have to fit into one of the clicks. Management has their favorites and if you aren't one of them don't expect any career growth. It is extremely fast paced, need the charge nurses to assist when it's too busy. Very difficult to ensure patient care when each nurse has 5 each.

    Advice to Management

Open any browser and search for Christus Spohn Shoreline Employee Reviews. You need to hire more nurses and provide incentive for them to stay a minimum of 5 years. So many of the current nurses have only been there 1 to 2 years. Before they move on to better opportunities.

    Cons

Some managers can hold you back from transferring or growing just to be spiteful.

    Advice to Management

I really advice that the favoritism towards the lazy, fickle and unhelpful employees stop and start to acknowledge the loyal hardworking employees who stork with their heart.

I have been working at CHRISTUS Spohn Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great teamwork on most units and learned a lot. Flexible work schedule for the most part.

    Cons

Pay is not that great; didn't get a raise until over two years after I started working there. Got hired in at a certain rate (Corpus is considerably lower than national average), but found out other new grads were getting hired in at a couple more dollars an hour. As an experienced nurse, it was discouraging to find out that loyal, experienced employees were not getting paid at least the going rate or more.
Upper management requires more and more of employees and does not compensate accordingly. They need to do more to retain their loyal employees as there were high turnover rates at times. I have also seen that they are trying to recruit from other cities and states, and are offering a ton more (even bonuses) money than what they pay their current employees. If you can get hired in from that angle, then that's the way to go.
I would only recommend this job to a friend because most of the employees are awesome.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more and do more to retain good employees. I would imagine, in the long run, it should save the company money as you have less new employees to train/orient, etc...

    Pros

Great benefits in particular vision coverage. Frames are covered up to one hundred fifty dollars in network. This is a great plan because other vision plans cover less or they only give a small discount such as ten percent. They have flexible schedules in that they are willing to work with students around school schedules and they have a program called Grow Your Own in which full time associates can go to school full time and work part time and yet get compensated for full time hours. Overall the Christus Spohn Hospital is a great place to work and people are great.

    Cons

too much "nit picking" and peer animosity. This leads to lower employee morale and pay is not up to par with the level of work is required and does not match associate experience. Too much work load for the amount of staff on hand. In addition, new rules and regulations in pharmacy operations have made stress levels and employee morale decrease exponentially. This is due to management who believes that things can be one hundred percent correct, when in fact there will always be some errors. This is due to human nature and there is no way to be completely one hundred percent correct all the time.

    Advice to Management

Respect associates and don't put them down
