I worked at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are still a few good people left working there, but for the most part the really smart ones got out.

    Cons

Too many to list. Upper management is horrendous. The "not-for-profit" hospital tries to convince the community, by using millions of dollars on marketing, to believe that the patient is their number one priority. The patients, like the staff, are only numbers to them. The community hates this hospital more than ever, and it was not very popular ten years ago. Money, and making lots of it, are the primary objective. This organization will turn a blind eye to warnings of something going wrong, like drug addicts working in the Emergency Dept. or ICU. They don't want to know about it. Now, the main competition, Presbyterian, which is local favorite in New Mexico, is building a hospital in Santa Fe. CHRISTUS St. Vincent is a sinking ship, and the rats will be jumping ship in big numbers. CHRISTUS Health might opt out by the time Presbyterian opens its hospital.

    Advice to Management

Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you really value people's lives and jobs, not just your bonus.

I have been working at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Christus gets a bad reputation in the community but they have been a great hospital to work for and to get treated at. They have made strides each year I have been there improving their relations with the community. Even getting all private rooms in the upcoming future.

    Cons

People in the community think its a bad hospital just because one person may have told them so 10 years ago.

    Advice to Management

Keep improving each year as you have been. Been a great hospital to me even when I needed treated or those I know needed treatment.

    Pros

Not very many pros here, probably not the worst employer but pretty close, some nice employees and the rest burnt out and hostile.

    Cons

very negative work environment, management tends to lie to employees, very unprofessional. poor services, poor reputation in the community and avoided by the community.

    Advice to Management

the management does not own the hospital and has been notorious in the media for giving themselves generous bonuses, need to focus on employee retention.

I worked at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center full-time

    Pros

The hospital is a single provider in the region and it obviously is trying to create a positive image for itself.

    Cons

Focused on growth, acts a big for-profit corporation while it claims to be no-profit. Tries to monopolize the market and destroy the competition. Senior management is overpaid and employees are underpaid. Does not provide cost of living adjustment and for that reason it tends to offer very small raises (0.25% - 1%) )that are way below the inflation rate, i.e. you typically get a pay cut every year. It tries to destroy the nurses union. The work environment is very toxic, it's not a good work place for nurses and nursing assistants.

    Advice to Management

Focus on your employees not solely on growth.

I worked at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work environment if you are working at one of their clinics rather than in the hospital. Great pay and benefits. Good customer service for employees.

    Cons

Although they are a non-profit, they are profit driven and the balance sheet is always the bottom line. Executives are accessible but non responsive; they merely give lip service. If a patient does not have insurance/good insurance and/or have behavioral health problems, they are treated very poorly, if at all.

    Advice to Management

Employ a hospital staff/ED practitioners who provide compassionate care to patients with behavioral health (to include addictions) problems. Currently, the care is appallingly crass.
