    Pros

The people. Quirky critical thinkers that value community, and changing things for the better.

    I love you guys.

    Cons

There is so much free food and drink-- it can be hard to exercise self restraint.

I have been working at CIC (Cambridge) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

CIC is very dynamic, and could never be called boring. The people are the best part of working here by far, particularly at the middle management level and below. Everyone is interesting, and all care very much about the people they work for and with. Projects tend to be interesting, often because no one working on them is an expert and so we're learning on the fly. Expansion has opened up a number of new opportunities for veteran staff.

    Cons

No one knows nearly as much about this industry as they think they do, and that often means high levels of blind confidence. Support from upper management is limited at best, and there's no consistency in the amount of help one can expect from one's managers. Systematic training and professional development are non-existent, and pay is lower than similar jobs at other companies. The main focus right now is on expanding, but the core of the business is less robust and polished than it once was, and receives less financial and staff support than it once did. Lateral hires have thinned out the spirit of the place, and constant centralization of tasks and systems have lessened the client focus that makes CIC unique in its field. There's been a great deal of turnover lately, particularly of staff at or approaching their 2nd or third year, leaving the client-facing teams mostly new and inexperienced, putting a great deal of stress on middle management, and limiting the number of interesting and new projects any one person can take on.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people you hired when they tell you what they need.

    Pros

You're exposed to entrepreneurs that do amazing things.
There's a large feeling of independence in your job, but teams are also very important.
    Awesome benefits
    Young teams
Hire great people - tough hiring process pays off

    Cons

The pace of the center is always changing - it's like being a part of a living organism so you need enjoy having tougher days and easier days.

    Advice to Management

Managers haven't been given any time of management training. This could be very helpful for focusing managers' time, attention, and energy on only the most important things.

    Pros

There's no predicting what exactly will happen on a given day at CIC. We provide a wide range of services to the couple hundred companies in our spaces, and to meet those needs CIC management looks for intelligent, flexible, creative individuals. A lot of trust is placed in the staff, and the high retention rate is a testament to the benefits of being employed here -- my favorite is that I enjoy what I do 99/100 days, but the free monthly massage is also nice.

    Cons

At the moment there's not much room for vertical progress, career wise. Also, while we're often handed new challenges, new projects and responsibilities, it's hard to convey that growth on a resume. It's difficult to accurately translate the CIC experience in general, without being able to show someone around.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

    Pros

CIC is a place where innovation and initiative are highly valued. The environment is very fast-paced, so there's never a boring day, and it is casual but professional. (Not stuck-up.) The management is supportive of you if you want to learn and grow. And the work is very self-directed; you are trusted to make good decisions and to manage your own time. They give direct feedback so you immediately know where you can improve and what you are doing well.

    Cons

It is a fast-paced environment and expectations are high, so it can often be get quite stressful.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing.

I have been working at CIC (Cambridge) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people who work here are fantastic, especially at the lower levels. Health benefits are still 100% covered, which is a rarity, though that's likely to change soon. Work is almost never boring. The new facilities are awesome. The Cambridge location is prime real-estate. Most clients are wonderful. Much of the staff have close, personal relationships with each other, which is awesome to see.

    Cons

Senior management isn't well-informed or in touch with the ground operations. "Experimentation" is rampant, unmonitored, and poorly executed. Management is untrained and ill-equipped to maintain standards. New hires are given far too much authority and too little training. Thoughts about the future are too conservative and thoughts about the present are too uncontrolled.

    Advice to Management

Install a funneling system, so you can draw experience upward to those with authority. Those in charge don't have the proper experience and those with experience don't have proper authorization to make things happen, meaning your quickest and most efficient actions are often wrong-headed and your right-headed actions take too long to implement or get shot down entirely.

I worked at CIC (Cambridge) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The organization really tries to promote people who have ideas and act on them. You don't need to be in a position of power to get things done and reap the rewards. You get what you make of your time at CIC, and the more you put in the more you'll get out.

    Cons

The interview process is long and challenging. If you get discouraged, and it shows, you won't get the job.

    Pros

    - The people are the best people I've ever worked with. Smart, creative, funny.
    - While a growing company, it sticks to it's start-up roots, encouraging staff to take on initiatives, better processes, and work together in a horizontal manner to improve the organization.
    - The massages. Yup - as a full-time employee, you are entitled to a complimentary massage every month with the in-house masseuse.
    - Health benefits - 100% of your health is covered. Who does that anymore?!

    Cons

    - The salaries could be higher. But then again, you get a lot of benefits, and most of the positions don't require outside of normal hours work.

    Pros

The hiring process here can be intense, but it means that the staff is bright, self-motivated, creative, interesting, and has a sense of humor. The co-workers are one of the best aspects of working here. Other pros - 1) things are constantly changing (keeps things interesting), 2) you're empowered to take on projects that inspire you (you can actually see your impact, and you're always problem solving) 3) people work hard, but know how important it is to have fun while you're doing so.

    Cons

We're a growing company, and we don't have it all figured out yet. It's a pro and a con.
