I have been working at CIM Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Rare combination of Entrepreneurial atmosphere with institutional financial capacity. Fair compensation, new modern corporate office and many employee perks. Collection of very smart people. A lot of autonomy at senior levels assuming you earn trust of principals, although this may vary by department

    Cons

Experiencing growing pains in terms of instituting policies and procedures. But this is to be expected given the firm's rapid growth and success

    Advice to Management

Don't let go of that entrepreneurial spirit as the company grows and evolves. Reward and recognize strong employees, especially those who demonstrate loyalty, to limit turnover during a hot job market

    Pros

very good health benefits, 401k. Paid holidays. I don't personally have much more to add for the pros. A good place if you're very analytics heavy.

    Cons

I've never been more micromanaged--It was out of control. CIM is full of very smart folks who often are missing street smarts and only have book smarts. They live out of their spreadsheets and can't get out of their own way. Lot's of politics and pretense. There were very few times I ever truly enjoyed working for them--and I was a remote employee. I can only imagine how much more absurd this all would've been if I had actually be located in LA. Also there's zero understanding of the cost of living in San Francisco. Good luck if you work for them somewhere other than LA.

    Advice to Management

Find the right people that will mentor and raise up their staff, and promote them. Yes, sales and analytics are important, but you miss so much when you're simply buried in Excel. There are truly talented people that end up walking out the door with the current management style.

I worked at CIM Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Pros
Entrepreneurial culture. Rapid company growth with various opportunities for career path. Huge network on all levels of the business. Great benefits. Offices now in all time zones allowing for flexibility. Several funds with the most diverse portfolio possible.

    Cons

    Cons
Rapid company growth means changes in processes and responsibilities, which may not be the right fit for some people. Entrepreneurial environment which means you must be self-sufficient, which may not be for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Generally my advice is to keep doing what you're doing, as my choice to leave was simply due to my own goals, no fault of the firm. But make all efforts possible to maintain its entrepreneurial culture and not become another typical corporation.

I worked at CIM Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company as a whole is very unified. If you work hard you will be paid well and taken care of. Offices closed on Sundays is also a plus.

    Cons

Issues at the property level with management being immature, taking advantage of hard working employees, picking favorites, and having a sour attitude.

    Advice to Management

I think some people are placed into Property Manager positions too soon, or maybe they just aren't given the proper tools to do well and continue to grow. I think more hands on training at that level is important as it is what caused me to leave the company. All other aspects of this company are great and I felt supported in that aspect, just not on the property level.

    Pros

Many of the reviewers A) complain about management, B) praise the employees who work here. Remember: they were chosen by management. The non-micro-managing, trusting, casual culture filled with a bunch of really smart people is the antithesis of my previous employment on Wall Street (many years), and it makes for a day-to-day environment where I can be more productive and feel far more relaxed and happy at work. I also feel like a lot of people who complain are...not that experienced. Sorry folks, but compared to other offices (especially in NYC) things are actually good at CIM, the hours aren't bad at all, and teams actually work well together. I definitely feel more appreciated than I have in previous positions.

    Cons

    Could use more vacation time.

I worked at CIM Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Other than free snacks and free dinner (which is more a ruse to get you to work longer hours) not much.

    Cons

Especially in IT, this has to be one of the worst departments I've ever had the misfortune of working at. Complete lack of strategy, direction, some would say you get a lot of freedom but should anything go wrong, everything will be pinned on you, related or not. Very stressful to be looking over your shoulder not knowing who you can trust for backstabbing is common. Stay away from working in IT.

    Advice to Management

They don't listen so it doesn't matter. Get some professional managers in there, for starters.
