I worked at CIT full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable 100 year old company in railroad industry. Cyclical but resilient business of freight car leasing. Company respected in industry and has staying power due to younger age of fleet.

    Cons

Lack of diversity and opportunity. Rail division is very flat and monochromatic. Not many women in management. Feelings of the good ole boys network at times.

I have been working at CIT full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been with the company for a few months now. I knew as soon as I interviewed with Sr Management this was a positive environment to build a career. They offer professional flexibility to keep you engaged and strongly encourage learning and development. Management is available but allows independent productivity to encourage growth. All departments come together as strong contributors to their local community through volunteering and monthly charitable contributions. I feel they genuinely value the work of their people. They are flexible and allow work from home as needed. They definitely understand family and work to provide a good work/life balance. The benefits are comparable to similar companies. Management is very knowledgeable and keeps an open door policy. Staff is very friendly and Rail, as a whole, is a very interesting field to make a career in. Advancement opportunities: Unsure Pay: Fair PTO: Sick, Personal and Vacation

    Cons

    No cons so far.

    I worked at CIT full-time

    Pros

Competitive Pay, Competitive Benefits, Fair Time Off Policy

    Cons

When I interviewed, it seemed like a great place to work. I was told that I'd be working with some out of state vendors, that I would make frequent site visits and that I would be responsible for helping to make significant changes to policy in my area of expertise. When I took the job, I was asked to only do PART of what I was hired to do, seldom worked with the vendor, never traveled to their site and was not involved in any of the changes that were talked about during the interview process. While I was there, there was no commitment to work/life balance. I was told that I was to be an 8-5 guy and when leaving at 5 to spend time with my family, the comment I got was "Oh, checking out early, eh?" The culture is VERY strict with little to no room for personality or levity.

I worked at CIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Co-workers were nice, good location

    Cons

Poor management....While Sr. Management say they care about the EE's, line managment really doesn't unless you can do something for them. Medical is not good. Revolving chairs in the C-Suite lots of people coming and going. Looks like getting the co ready to be sold off. I would not recommend working there a any age or level in this climate. BTW Heard lots of people got downsized recently.

    Advice to Management

Truly care about people. Eiminate middle managment thatb does not care. HR Listn to complaints abou middle managment and do something about those who should not manage people and have poor management skills.

I have been working at CIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Work/life balance is good, but need to push for it
-Compensation is competitive, motivated employees are compensated

    Cons

    -Culture is weak
-Work ethic does not seem to be shared across group; much of the firm is 9-5 with little motivation

    Advice to Management

-Instead of destroying culture further, get employees involved and engaged in being a part of a strategy
-Develop a sense of camaraderie and want to succeed

I have been working at CIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

WiFi, convenient location, friendly campus, casual work attire, somewhat competitive benefit package, ability to work-from-home occasionally in some job positions.

    Cons

Weak people managers with little or no experience in managing teams and no training on how to manage adult teams. Very outdated technology, absolute lack of career development and growth opportunities, anemic annual raises, micro-management style with extreme distrust of non-management employees

    Advice to Management

Please do not become another Citigroup or Bank of America, where returning capital to the investors is all that matters, even at the cost of employees' well-being. If the employees become disenchanted and feel disrespected by leadership, CIT will become another mediocre, lack luster employer with high turnover and falling NPS scores.
