"Great Learning Experience - Not the best, but certainly not the worse place"

I have been working at CKE Restaurants full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This review applies to the Anaheim location: Nice people, flexible work schedule, laid back atmosphere, decent vacation/sick hours, paid holidays, education reimbursement (not much, but better than nothing), no performance reviews, free beverages and co-workers love to bring food to share.

CKE is a great learning experience...you will be exposed to the good, bad and ugly of a burger operation. If you are a current student, recent grad, reentering the workforce or just want a job, you will fit in just fine.

    Cons

Compensation package - Wages are below average, no 401k matching and medical is EXPENSIVE. Raises are not automatic and if you do get one, it's not much. High turnover, especially in certain departments. Low morale. Department policies and procedures are not in writing. Too much finger point when things go wrong. Systems and processes are manual and outdated. Management can be reactionary instead of proactive.

    Advice to Management

Please invest in your support staff and hourly workers. They are just as valuable as supervisors and managers. If you can't give healthy raises, there are other incentives to boost morale and productivity. It's time to demote and/or get rid of toxic managers because they are walking landmines and do nothing, but cost the company money and talent.

PS - Please allocate a little more $$$ for future Christmas parties. It doesn't speak well that enough food was not prepared for all the employees that attended and we all had to wait in line for 30 minutes.

    Pros

    Decent Salary for Fast Food
    Benefits are okay
Meal Discounts 20% anytime, 50% 30 min before your shift to 30 min after
Well known on the West Coast for having big, tasty burgers

    Cons

Although salary is decent for fast food, you cap off fairly quickly and raises are minimal
You can only go so far up the chain before there is no where else to go - General Manager is basically where most people aim to reach, since District Managers positions are limited.
Around the holidays be expected to work 55 hours a week.
Labor costs can be unrealistic at times

    Advice to Management

Offer other positions in corporate office, if upward movement is not available. This may help with retention.

    Pros

The teams can be really nice depending on who you work for. A lot of dedicated people to an extent. This company is about to close doors in their HQ, and I don't see as many people jumping ship as I thought. Job is fairly easy, and have quite a bit of autonomy to get things done. With that you have pretty good work life balance.

    Cons

With lots of autonomy, not much direction is given. Company goes by a learn by rote type deal. Someone is always cleaning up someone elses mess, and know if you come on you probably will be doing the same thing (so you have some job security if you can do that). This really is a job for fresh college grads since the pay is crap, benefits are crap, and raises non existent. No bonus structure payouts, and the possibility of your job being influenced by Conservative Politics. As a millenial, I will say I learned a ton, but staying in this company for more than a year make you untransferrable with regards to skillsets anywhere else. Also Executives and Corporate operations are separated, so any interaction with executive management will probably go unheard. Can't bring other fast food chains (even if they are cheaper cause you are trying to save money from your meager salary) to eat on premises or you get fired.

    Advice to Management

None, you know what you are signing up for working for a conservative company. I mean the CEO is on Fox News all the time.

    Pros

Great location with a wonderful view overlooking the beach. There are free soda, coffee, and popcorn in lunch room.

    Cons

People are worried about losing their jobs. They are cutting jobs through attrition and targeted layoffs. People are not very friendly. This is not the place where "everyone knows your name". The pay is below market average.

    Pros

Competitive benefits. Business casual environment that welcomes creative thinking. Good amount of long term employees in Corporate offices. Communicative CEO that clearly identifies to the employees the goals for the company.

    Cons

High turnover in the field. Some departments do not value their employees.
