I have been working at CLEAResult full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The energy efficiency industry is a rapidly evolving situation. CLEAResult is on the cutting edge. My manager respects me. I am given tasks and then trusted to do them. I get things done and my hard work is recognized. My position has evolved since first being hired and I like my job.

    Cons

I mostly work from home. That can be isolating. This isn't specific to CLEAResult. Just, generally speaking, working from home is isolating. As such, it can be difficult to feel a strong connection to my employer and team. Again, this is not specific to CLEAResult. That said, I do enjoy the flexibility of working from home. And I love my morning commute!

I have been working at CLEAResult full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

This company is extremely flexible with vacation and sick time. Several (not most) positions are work from home, even when not in COVID. Health Insurance continues to improve as the company grows. The company is a leading contributor in their field, Energy Efficiency Consulting. Turnover rates have gone down in the past two years due to changes in leadership for the better. The company is very culturally accepting and inclusive.

    Cons

Depending on where you work it can be difficult to move up. Although top Leadership is changing slowly, there is still the "Good Ole Boys" mentality that is a constant struggle to overcome. The company is working hard to do better about this and those steps have been visible company wide. The company has a MAJOR problem in dealing with people in positions they are not suitable for. When a ball is dropped or someone completely lands on their face, there are no consequences...or if there are, they aren't enough to make a change in that persons work behavior. It's frustrating and disappointing that this tolerance also contributes to the difficulty in moving up in the company. Hopefully this will be one of the changes yet to come in the new Leadership plan.

I worked at CLEAResult full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-Flexible PTO -Work from home (depending on the manager) -Some individuals truly care and have a passion for what they do. -Mission to change the way people use energy -Business casual dress code -Learned from and worked with some talented individuals. -Learned about energy efficiency -Seeing the local impact of cost-saving measures

    Cons

-Lack of diversity, especially in leadership positions. It has been “talked” for a while but the company recently started to put in the true effort for DEI. Hope it works but unsure because a lot of the impact will be/need to be done on local levels. Most are all talk but no action or little action because it “the right thing to do“. -White male privilege & male privilege, terrible. Women don’t need men to help as much as you might think. Worked with some intelligent & strong women. -Lack of accountability for peers -Not equal opportunities for career growth & professional development -Health insurance was alright, pretty basic -Cutting 20% pay due to COVID-19. Wasn't salary based -Lack of transparency & honesty. Didn’t really want to participate in activities. -Favoritism, pettiness & fakeness. Most of it came from people in leadership/management roles -Didn't trust manager -Lack of advancement -Some company policies aren’t equal for all -Work processes/procedures aren’t documented well -Lack of respect-especially for women, leadership/management roles. Talk to people with respect and as a fellow human being, A title doesn’t mean you can treat or talk to people any type of way. It’s disrespectful & says something about your character.

    I worked at CLEAResult full-time

    Pros

Because of its mission-driven nature, the company does attract some highly-intelligent, passionate people. I made some great friends here. Because of high turnover, there are opportunities for advancement within program teams. If you care about the environment, this company does very direct work that leads to a decrease in carbon emissions. I learned a lot about energy management here.

    Cons

The talented, awesome people I mentioned above, including amazing women leaders, also left in droves throughout the several years I was there. The ones that are left behind are subjected to navigating a culture that favors a very specific cis, straight white male prototype: the "good ole boy" who is constantly promoted despite having seemingly little talent outside of impeccable snake oil salesmanship skills. The "yes man" whose sometimes not-so-subtle sexism, racism and homophobia is overlooked because they keep clients happy. It's honestly discouraging and distracting for the people who really care about making energy efficiency a critical piece of addressing our climate crisis.

February 5, 2021Manager, Employee Engagement and Communications

Thank you, we appreciate both the affirming and constructive comments. We also acknowledge we are early in our journey toward an equitable and inclusive workplace where all feel they belong and can thrive. 2020 marked the first year where we began making investments toward that aspiration in earnest. We launched an intentional culture initiative that includes a significant body of work designed to develop awareness and education on issues of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion at CLEAResult. In 2021, we’ve committed to several targeted investments to advance these efforts using data, developing our managers, and making connections to performance and recognition. While we’ve got work to do, we believe it’s important to keep focus on the long-game. Over time, we’re optimistic that we will see positive outcomes from these earnest investments across the organization. And we look forward to seeing that impact reflected in future comments.

I worked at CLEAResult full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people to work with, my office tended towards a younger age set but suited where I was at the time. Mid-level managers, for the most part, were great to work with. Good place to get your foot in the door if you're interested in the industry.

    Cons

At the time I left there was a lot of re-org, the energy efficiency consulting industry was changing, and the company was still learning how to adapt.

I worked at CLEAResult full-time for more than a year

    Pros

VERY talented and smart people who really care about their work. Most of the employees are between 25-35 which makes the atmosphere pretty fun. It's a good place to get started in the Energy Efficiency industry.

    Cons

There's a high turn over due to the pay scale. Very talented people come in to only work a year or so before finding another company that will pay competitively.

I worked at CLEAResult full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There's smart people there if you're truly interested in energy efficiency(or what remains of it at this point). If you really want to learn about HVAC systems or building science there's folks there who can school you in it. The vacation/leave policy isn't that bad, most managers are flexible with it as long as you hit magical utilization targets(just bill everything if you want to keep your job). The office culture actually got better, but there's basically nowhere to go but up from the nadir of morale they had for years. They actually addressed a few concerns though most of these are things that normal companies do already. They actually do some fun stuff occasionally now after people complained it wasn't a cool place to work. Basically if you're young and need to get your foot in the door somewhere, it might be a decent pick for a few years to get some more skills and pad your resume with a position or two, but don't expect much longterm potential. Get in, get your promotion, and get out!

    Cons

-CLEAResult was a little known player in the industry for years until they got some venture capital megabucks and bought out and acquired basically most of their industry competition though they forgot that that just left room for outside players to get into the market. Throughout this incredibly inorganic growth, a lot of beloved and smart people lost their jobs(due to the regular layoff cycle) and others just got fed up and left(usually to CLEAResult's own clients). Which meant that a lot of institutional knowledge was lost, positions weren't back-filled for years, and people got even more overworked and tired of it and left. They had insane growth targets that could never meet, while they ignored support of their existing clients and work(and lost some of those also) Now they have a new venture capital owner and are trying to act like things are going smoothly. Unfortunately the opportunities in the industry are dwindling and they're probably about to start the latest round of layoffs. -For a company that prides itself on being this tech-savvy consulting firm, they're incredibly backwards in terms of infrastructure and IT support. They roll out a different CRM system every couple years(without realizing that most of the programs are too complicated to just use a CRM system). They also don't seem to know what a data warehouse is, though that's what they actually need in a lot of instances. -No career growth for most people unless you're one of the lucky few. A lot of managers or directors got promoted up the ladder in the boom years and had the right friends on both sides of the industry to keep their jobs, but forgot that maybe others had some career ambitions. If your manager gets hit by a car or takes a role at a clien you might have a shot at promotion otherwise, it's a crapshoot. They don't have a real defined set of roles and positions in the hierarchy as it is, people's job titles below manager are often ambiguous and don't reflect the work they actually do. Management tasks are often done by lower level staff, while managers have to work mostly on client relations and business development. -Teams get rearranged constantly outside the program teams and people end up just working on way too many contracts. Leads to more burnout and then people leave and others have to pick up the slack.

    I worked at CLEAResult full-time

    Pros

CLEAResult is a great emerging energy efficiency company. It has gone to bootstrap startup to a major player in the industry, let by some great people. I enjoyed the work life balance, the opportunities and flexibility in a growing company. Excellent people to work with, plenty of collaboration across teams. Solid benefits when I was there.

    Cons

Growing pains - the company seems to be motivated by exponential growth, acquisitions and continual positive performance from a venture capitalist firm who has a significant stake in the company.
