I worked at CMS Cameron McKenna full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really well-known established company to work for. All staff were friendly and helpful. Good networking and social events. Good staff benefits and great city location.

    Cons

A lot of the paralegal work was mainly admin based and not challenging. Mostly on-the-job training. There was not many opportunities to get involved in different areas of work, if you offered your hand the job would either go to someone who was experienced in that area or someone who had little to do. Once you became good at something it stuck with you for a while and got repetitive. Pay was lower than other paralegal positions in the city.

    Advice to Management

Challenge the staff and get them involved in lots of different areas, having wide experience will mean being able to work with more of the business.,

    Pros

Friendly close-knit team. Classic all-rounder law firm which takes care of all types of cases

    Cons

Too small scale for me. I prefer larger law firm which has higher added-value cases

    Advice to Management

I have been working at CMS Cameron McKenna full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Open and collegiate culture with great work.

    Cons

Progression is a simple numbers game and heavily reliant on metrics (read billable hours).

Salary is far below market, especially given where they see themselves in the UK and global legal market.

    Pros

Global firm with offices worldwide, and therefore big ticket work working in a team with friendly people. Happy to have trained here.

    Cons

Sometimes it is too big for its own good, with things being done repeatedly or not very efficiently. A good 'knowledge bank' mechanism is required for most departments.

    Pros

    Good experience, and decent pay.

    Cons

Takes quite a while to get used to the company's systems and culture as there's not enough support for new starts.

    Advice to Management

More support mechanisms needed for new members of staff, and an initiation/induction process to be better through through.

    Pros

Very friendly people. Good work/life balance. Nice offices.

    Cons

Didn't particularly like having all support stuff on one floor. Didn't feel very integrated with the rest of the firm and can be quite noisy.

    Pros

Lovely people, really down-to-earth and fun. Commercially focused. I found CMS pretty non-hierarchical for a partnership.

    Cons

    Lots of inefficiencies. Convoluted processes.
