I have been working at CN full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Income for the job titles require little education basic typing and computer skills. There are no steps to top salary in your job title as Transportation Clerk. On day 1 according to your grade that's the pay you receive

    Cons

Inadequare job training, no room for growth. Nepotism. When and if you make a mistake it could cause you to be temporarily suspended without pay.

I worked at CN full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The money and benefits are excellent if that's what you are seeking in a career.

    Cons

They leave training in the hands of people who really do not want to train. They're forced to train and paid very little extra to do so. The people training you might have only been working there for a few months themselves. They do not have a system in place for people to learn the job well. I had a meeting with a manager where they asked me how I felt I was doing. I was honest with my struggles, and they reassured me...

    Advice to Management

Properly vet your trainers before sending them off to new employees. Just because they are good at their own jobs, doesn't mean they're qualified to train someone else. Also, update your programming. How is a company as profitable as CN using such outdated computer programs to do train reporting?

I worked at CN full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

This company pays well and has great benefits. Unionized environment

    Cons

Micro-managed. Management uses profanity to communicate with unionized staff, throws objects and they have a slew of lawyers that can prevent the employees' protection of their rights. Steer clear!!! Unless union personnel is "sleeping" with management their is a glass ceiling!!! No room for growth. Unless you're there for the money, look for other more fruitful careers!!! Definitely not worth having to wonder if you're...

I worked at CN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The salary and benefits are great. That's where it ends.

    Cons

Some of the cons include- but are not limited to- poor, underqualified management, little to no disregard for employees, and general sketchiness.
