I worked at CNO Financial Group (More than 3 years)

    Pros

High pay, benefits decent, some job perks like free tickets at the fieldhouse

    Cons

Leadership is demanding, gives no autonomy, treats employees like children and/or slaves, very little employee engagement/morale in most areas, products sold are a rip off for most customers, they don't value people/employees at all, all the value is in high output from teams to better affect the bottom line, expect salaried employees to regularly work 60+hours a week year round with a "suck it up" mentality. There are some good people there who are brainwashed that this is how a company should be run and don't know any better because they've spent their whole career there. It's a shame.

    Advice to Management

Empower you employees, treat them with respect, let people have ownership of their jobs, value people's personal time and make less demands. Have reasonable expectations.

    Cons

Poor pay, zero ethical standards. Sell what makes the company money, not what's best for the customer.

    Advice to Management

Focus on customer need. Try actually paying your employees.

    Pros

Wellness and on-site clinic and cafeteria

    Cons

Extremely poor management, poor employees are rewarded by being released to other departments. Good employees are punished they are denied time off for internal interviews, they are not released to. Go-to other departments, leads, supervisors and managers are incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Award good employees don't fire good employees because of their salary rate

    Pros

Great health program & love the clinic on site. Free parking on Carmel campus. Lots of volunteer opportunities in community.

    Cons

Lousy leadership below the c level. Individuals are not valued. Not family oriented. If you hit a salary ceiling then you can't even get a cost of living increase even with good evaluation.

    Advice to Management

Put as much effort into employee engagement as you do the health program. Hold management accountable for bad behavior & provide people skills training.

    Pros

    wellness programs
    physical environment
good CEO who has improved AM Best rating

    Cons

good ol' boys network where senior leaders delegate everything, are always tan from golfing or traveling and not working, HR and IT are incredibly dysfunctional. 90% of bankers' managers are willing to lie, cheat or steal to earn a commission.
Benefits are ABOMINABLY bad, "high-deductible plans are the wave of the future" = WE WANT TO SAVE $$$ so we can pad our executive bonuses at the expense of our employees, quite literally just a catastrophic health plan

    Advice to Management

CEO is shielded from seeing true employees' feedback (by tyrannical hr leader) or survey results as they would incriminate certain departments. CEO needs to be aware that his senior leaders rarely work.

I have been working at CNO Financial Group (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Close to home. Flexible work hours, some good benefits such as medical clinic, company has healthy goals program.

    Cons

Limited career advancement out of the claims department. Dictator type of management. Management does not like to hear ideas or suggestions from lower level employees. There is no feedback when ideas and suggestions are given. Management does not communicate with the adjusters well enough. It is a factory mentality with meeting claim production goals. Low pay and no appreciation for hard work. Unrealistic perfection is expected.

    Advice to Management

Lower level employees need decent pay increase. Management is awarded bonuses for meeting goals, yet the people who are actually doing the work, get nothing. Need more realistic production goals.
