I worked at CNO Financial Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Knowledge, ability to move around in the company and find other areas of interest and or knowledge. Vacation time and personal days available.

    Cons

There is not always the available training materials or people available for you when learning something new. Vacation and personal time not always easy to use depending on management.

    Advice to Management

    Management needs training also.

I worked at CNO Financial Group (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly culture, good working environment, good community involvement.

    Cons

Most development and support are offshore, managed by third party consulting firm Cognizant. Much of IT staff was "rebadged" to Cognizant and later released. Very little job security.

    Advice to Management

Value your people more than the bottom line. Seek to know every employee rather than making blind decisions en masse about their futures.

I worked at CNO Financial Group full-time

    Pros

This could vary by department, my in experience the presence of long-tenured employees provides expertise and stability.
Employees had a decent work-life balance.

    Cons

When I was there, the company was in the process of divesting certain lines of business, which creates uncertainty. Much of that is now in the past, but some questions linger due to an unclear mission statement.
CNO faces the standard large company issues of politics and bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

The company mission was always unclear to me, and the company mission statement is simply not helpful. Establish a clear vision, communicate that vision, stick religiously to that vision, and let your workforce implement it.

    Pros

Depending on your department, they allow you to work from home, they pay good salaries, and they allow you to work flexible hours.

    Cons

They are very disorganized since they started to work with CTS as a vendor. It is difficult to get a project completed. Morale is very low.

    Advice to Management

Realize that employees are not robots. Management has started to realize that they need to look more at the hardship of their management style on their staff. Follow through on that.

I have been working at CNO Financial Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very nice health program (on-site clinic, lots of company sponsored health programs/events, building on-site gym to be open at the end of 2016). If you have a good manager, they do strive to actually recognize you for the work you do. There is potential for CNO to be a great company, but not everyone is on the same page. Career opportunities are there if you want them.

    Cons

Very out dated, inefficient systems used to process claims. Projects can be disorganized. Some managers are terrible and others are awesome. The upper management may change your position without warning and you won't have a say in it really. Pay scale varies greatly which could be good or bad depending on which side you land. The Claims Department hands out mandatory overtime as if it were candy. Different teams seem to be working against each other.

    Advice to Management

There should be NO penalty for individuals receiving occurrences within the acceptable range. Stop with the frequent mandatory overtime. Consider actually training people before putting them on the floor. Invest the money into a system that is actually productive and useful. We need to be consistent in how claims are processed. We always say this is a goal, yet we are highly inconsistent in how we process claims.
