I have been working at COMSO full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

You may have certain expectations or preconceived notions about working for a small business when considering job opportunities. I offer COMSO as an example of all the best things you might imagine in a small business. I’ve been with COMSO for many years, through the ups and downs of economic expansions and recessions. There have been tough times, yet this company persists. There is a good deal of business savvy among the C-level execs and long-term staff that has helped the company weather bad markets as well as good. There are in fact many people who have been with COMSO for many years. COMSO is and has always been a woman-owned small business; within the last 2 years, the company experienced a change in ownership that has triggered a kind of renaissance. Just as a new member of a band will change the band’s music, sound, and soul, our new owner/CEO has instigated change that has renewed and energized the entire organization. Managers have always had a strong appreciation of work/life balance, and flexibility is built into the management/employee relationship. But COMSO’s culture is evolving in other ways that I find invigorating. The company is building stronger ties to the community. Spurred by our CEO, COMSO believes in proactively making an impact, supporting charitable organizations and getting out there and volunteering. The CEO finds ways of tying most of COMSO’s events and parties to community support; for example, by holding a managers’ offsite at an animal sanctuary, renting a tent for the company’s 30th anniversary at the Legacy Chase to support GBMC Oncology, or setting out donation boxes at the employee holiday party for a local Children’s House. We celebrate and we share. There are both impromptu Burgers and Brews cookouts at headquarters and planned cookouts for everyone in the Maryland region. COMSO offices are attractively styled in a contemporary, “steampunk” design, with a large open-design kitchen that invites socializing, with baskets of CSA bounty and chips for all, and a game room. A lot of thought has been put into making the office space welcoming and friendly. As I said, I’ve been with COMSO a long time, which must mean that I like it there and can recommend it to any candidates looking for a supportive and fun place to work.

    Cons

Can't think of anything to complain about.

I have been working at COMSO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've worked for a few small companies, but none like this. The leadership at COMSO has personally made sure I was able to further my career through their education reimbursement program. They've always been accommodating to my needs and stood by me from not only a professional standpoint, but also a personal one, too. When my son was seriously ill, the COMSO team stepped up to make sure my family had what we needed to get through it. The support I got from COMSO was invaluable and I will never forget that.

    Cons

I don’t have anything bad to say about COMSO!

I have been working at COMSO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Comso is the first organization that I have worked for that truly embodies a “family” environment. Numerous COMSO employees have been with the company for more than ten years—that just doesn’t happen anymore. COMSO has earned legitimate bragging rights to claiming employees are like family.

    Cons

COMSO is a small company and probably doesn’t have as many contract opportunities as a huge company, but I see lots of new work on the horizon.

I have been working at COMSO full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

COMSO has given me the ability to telecommute and this flexibility is huge living in the DC metro area. Their long list of benefits are excellent... added a Birthday holiday in addition to the normal list of government holidays off.

    Cons

None that I can think of

I worked at COMSO full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    pays slightly above market rate

    Cons

the manager i worked for didn't respect personal boundaries, he walks all over you. that person demands you sacrifice your self respect to stay on good terms. it's a one way street where someone's gotta be right and someone's gotta be wrong and stupid, and guess what--he's right so where does that leave you. interactions are so emotionally charged and unprofessional, really drains all positive energy from you.
