I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Transition seemed to be the theme during my time there; however, while stressful, it does provide a unique opportunity for learning and growth.

    - One of the biggest things that stands out when I recall my time there was CONSOL's commitment to their employee development, through the use of various business related and personal development training classes. I believe it is a good example of how the company invests in it's employees.

    Cons

    - There were definitely some personnel in middle management positions who should have never been allowed to be people managers...not saying that they were bad at their job function, just that having the additional responsibility of direct reports may have been out of the scope of their abilities and/or personal care. I would imagine this happens across every large organization and not just CONSOL, but it's still unfortunate, for everyone involved - as it ultimately has an impact on the company as a whole.

    Advice to Management

From the news I see there is still a great deal of transition happening. Transparency (real transparency) with your employees and personal acknowledgement of jobs well done will go a long way in keeping morale up during uncertain times. I do have many great memories from my time there, and sincerely appreciate the opportunity and experience I gained while employed there. Best of luck with all your future ventures!

I have been working at CONSOL Energy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Let's face it , no for-profit public company (except perhaps public utilities) is truly "loyal" to its employees, but some of more loyal than most. CONSOL has a very long history of retaining its employees for very long careers.

    Cons

The impending split of the coal business from the core gas business is causing anxiety among the coal business unit employees

    Advice to Management

Keep driving down drilling, completion, and operating costs and selling off non-core assets; use the proceeds to pay down debt an to acquire additional core assets and to drill new wells.

I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, exciting projects, incredible corporate office with a decent workout room (a little bigger than the average hotel gym)

    Cons

Poor communication and direction from management. This can be a pro, as there is no micro management here, but it is hard to complete a project without direction and communication from support groups such as purchasing/environmental.

I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great paying position in the engineering (coal). Awesome work atmosphere - field to office combination. They will value a hard-working, dedicated employee.

    Cons

Job security - I was layed off, but this is understandable. Management was uneasy before and during the time of layoffs..

    Advice to Management

Protect your highest valued employees that deserve more. Experience is great, don't get me wrong, but there are also great employees with little experience and a lot of potential.
