    Pros

Consol is willing to give major decisions to young people which gives them a unique opportunity to learn from their mistakes.

    Cons

Due to their coal pay scale they will not pay industry standard rates on their gas side. This lead to the hiring of under qualified individuals into specialized fields such as; employees with a bachelor’s degree in business to supervise a drilling rig instead of the petroleum engineer they should have hired. Major safety issues are overlooked on a regular by middle management and onsite employees half because they don’t know better and the other half because if they don’t their next promotion will not come. If you value your health and the health of those around you please avoid working at Consol.

    Advice to Management

Make every employee re apply for their own job using the criteria of other companies in the industry. Get rid of those that do not meet standards and fill the gaps that are left with consultants. Please implement these changes before it is too late.

I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and competitive salary. Human resources department is one of the best assets.

    Cons

There are a lot of men with power complexes running departments--in particular, the public relations department. They tout that they're moving in a new strategic direction, but have no idea what direction that is. There is no leadership or mentoring offered to new employees--if it weren't for the HR department, I wouldn't have known where the coffee or the restrooms were located. For a large energy producer, their PR department is being run very poorly. They don't seem up to speed on PR industry best practices, and the managers seem to have a very blatant disregard for rules, processes and ethical standards. I was very disappointed with my experience and expected better from a household name like CONSOL.

I have been working at CONSOL Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

nice building, enjoyed working with some of my coworkers

    Cons

nepotism and favoritism thrive, management was extremely disorganized and afraid to fire people who deserve it (instead they fire people who make "too much" money but have no power), no consequences for unprofessional behavior even when it negatively impacts work, empty promise of growth within the company

    Advice to Management

get organized, fire people who are unprofessional and don't perform the job well

    Pros

There really wasn't any pros, except it paid OK for the area I lived in, but compared to industry it was the lowest. The regular staff was great.

    Cons

The leaders only care about the leaders and taking care of themselves. They keep pulling all the perks that company once offered. For such a large company, there aren't any opportunities. The company layoffs or restructures twice a year and is super secretive when they do it. Leadership is not good when it comes to their own staff.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging, start leading your people, fire Nick as CEO. The man is incompetent as a leader and only cares about his own wealth and investors. If you really want to hire Millennials, then change the corporate culture and learn to be a truly innovative company.

I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mediocre Salary and Benefits, don't have to work hard, can get away with a lot and never get fired for it.

    Cons

Consol Energy is an extremely top heavy organization. There are so many managers and very few analysts to actually do the work. Layoffs seem to happen annually and managers never get cut. The executives keep repeating this process and then wonder why the bottom line never increases. Executives will eliminate raises for corporate employees but then give themselves huge multi-million dollar raises.

    Advice to Management

Cut management, cut executive salaries, offer competitive salaries for employees, stop micro-managing, eliminate the good old boy system, fire incompetent managers.

I have been working at CONSOL Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My department is flexible with hours and time off. No other pros. Really a terrible place to work. I have learned nothing in my time there and feel that it has set my career back rather than advanced it.

    Cons

Very disorganized company. Constant restructuring, layoffs, no clear direction at all. Experience is not at all valued. Computers and equipment are outdated and inadequate for getting the job done. There is no employee development or industry training. Communication is terrible. Many in middle management are just putting in time and doing the absolute minimum.

    Advice to Management

Bring up some folks from Texas who know how to run a real E&P company. The current management is a joke. Allow and encourage your employees to better themselves through industry training. Worry about really reducing costs in the field where it counts, not by cutting coffee to save a few thousand dollars a year.

Great company when I started out. Took care of its employees. Pay was great.

    Cons

Reputation plummetted. Poor business decisions led to major layoffs. Not the company I started with. Constantly taking things away from employees.

I worked at CONSOL Energy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits, half day Fridays, good coworkers(many are not there anymore though)

    Cons

You can never settle down because they are always transferring you or laying you off. Poor management. Layoffs left mostly managers left and a lot of them should have been let go. Many managers are only looking out for their interests and not the companies, hence the downfall of CONSOL. Get rid of the people that do the work and leave people that sit in endless meetings each day that mostly are unproductive. No communication within groups because the managers either don't get along with the other managers or they are trying to withhold info so they are more powerful. This may be a result of everyone always scared they will be laid off or transferred. Most people that read from the outside may think this is a bitter former employee that was laid off, but if you worked there you would know exactly what I am talking about.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing, they don't listen anyways.
