I have been working at CPG Corporation full-time

    Pros

    - Company with many resources and capacity to be so much more - Some really good supervisors that cares - Time can be managed to get work life balance

    Cons

    - Lots of people without skills but talks well (empty vessel and dead weight) - Lack of good middle management who actually have critical thinking. They prefer to pick on unnecessary details - Lack of appreciation for talent - Work hours can be insane during peak seasons

    Advice to Management

    - Architects cannot work with one hand, please fire off employees who don't perform and slack off work. - Appreciate and acknowledge talents to give incentives to grow.

I have been working at CPG Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work-Life Balance, conducive environment, big company

    Cons

Salary, too traditional mindset, too often in fire-fighting mode, the usual management politics

    Advice to Management

Do try to employ management staff from external instead of always promoting from internal. Improvement to the company will always be limited in this manner.

I have been working at CPG Corporation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Good knowledge support for projects. - Some form of welfare treat for staff. - Stable job for average performance, stay low in profile and you will keep your job. i.e. Work/life balance is dependent on own choice. Work slowly and go home on time to do less. - Project resource planning is based on "past experience and methods". Use past projects to avoid doing unnecessary work.

    Cons

    - Bad staff support or resource allocation for projects. The more you do, the more work you get. - Low emphasis on quality management for projects. - Slow pace or low emphasis on design improvement. - Design tools are backward i.e. 2D rather than 3D. - Little support for training, i.e. time or financial support. - Some documentations and tools have become obsolete or a white elephant - appraisal, time logging. - Expect a bottom up approach for coordination between different divisions (different disciplines) rather than top down approach as there is company politics upon upper management and problems with financial distribution for ambiguous distribution of resources.

    Advice to Management

    - Provide staff training and more sharing sessions. - Retain staff and staff knowledge in the company using constructive methods. - Learn to utilize software for project planning and resource allocation. - Focus on providing and exploring new solutions and solving practically rather than using only traditional or conservative approaches. - Focus on outreach to generate project income instead of being passive in a few markets.

I have been working at CPG Corporation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Stable environment, huge corporation and you'll become a cog within the process unless you step up to shine within the limited opportunities presented. Good branding and reputation to pull in big jobs.

    Cons

    - Infighting and office politics are rampant. Threading around carefully is the key. - Lack of opportunities and bosses pander to clients heavily which means associates are subjected to heavy work based on empty promises to clients - Lack of work life balance - Lack of sufficient employee benefit (150 bucks of dental per year with no optics, gym benefits etc) - Aging management system that is being outpaced by younger competitors. - Does not respond to the transformation in the digital landscape beyond the scope of construction industry and does not seek to innovate and integrate - Like any other bigger corps of construction, pretty much isolated and still rely on old school name card approaches to work process and practices. - Bosses tend to like bootlicking still and does not believe in nurturing employees beyond the scope of architecture despite proclaiming it on the surface.

    Advice to Management

Management has to be more agile and engage more with employees instead of a top down approach. Staffs are leaving because they do not feel appreciated. Despite the BIM age, architects still require technical staff but there are no manpower for it due to bosses mentality of architects taking multi-disciplinary roles which would mean loss of focus when designing or managing projects.

I worked at CPG Corporation for less than a year

    Pros

Nice co-workers, average medical benefits - only if you are male worker

    Cons

The worst place to work, long working hours, no work life balance

    Advice to Management

Do more real work, instead of office politics
