I worked at CPR Cellphone Repair full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very good business plan, if Franchisees / Owners follow corporate policies/procedures and properly train and provide support to technicians and managers. Almost every human being owns a cell phone. Humans are accident prone. When accidents happen, humans need their phones fixed!

    Cons

I was promised an opportunity to become a Co-Franchisee / Owner. That never materialized. I had to operate the store on a shoestring budget. My Franchisees / Owners purchased substandard parts directly from China. They would not properly train technicians and managers. Their idea of training was for you to watch a You Tube How-To Video. They would not replace light bulbs, fix faulty wiring or repair broken water heater. They would not pay for janitorial services, window cleaning or pest control. I had to do all of that myself. I worked 50 - 60 hours per week. I was given no lunch breaks away from the store. My lunch was typically eaten in between waiting on customers. I got every other Saturday off. The store was closed on Sundays.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the Franchisees / Owners of the respective location you are applying for ... are legitimately following the CPR Franchise policies and procedures and properly train and support their technicians and managers. Anything promised by the Franchisees / Owners, such as possible ownership, compensation, etc. ... needs to be writing ... Before you begin your employment!

I have been working at CPR Cellphone Repair part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Solve diagnostic puzzles brought on by a plethora of failure modes
-Gain experience with electrical troubleshooting, microsoldering
    -Learn valuable diagnostic techniques
-Become skilled in a relatively niche branch of repair, for the benefit of yourself and the company
    -Enjoyable coworkers

    Cons

    -Corporate disconnected from 'front lines'
-Arbitrary decisions dictating part suppliers that serve no benefit but the financial interests of shareholders
    -Little growth potential
-Underpaid for the degree of technical knowledge and experience expected
-Difficult to 'sell' repairs due to inherently anti-customer legalese required to authorize repairs

    Advice to Management

Pay your experienced techs accordingly. Be open to continuous improvement suggestions. Treat customers as customers and not threats.

I worked at CPR Cellphone Repair full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn so new skills everyday and so much satisfaction when things so right.
You are always on the for front of consumer tech and get to see how things work. Very challenging and also get a high when trying to figure problems out.
    Also great staff co workers.

    Cons

Customers can be very difficult when things go wrong, you need a strong, but cool calm personality, when taking criticism / blame for things that are not your fault when things are not repairable. Also very little staff training and wage is low for the type of work you do.

    Advice to Management

Organization and testing of new parts and stock is important. Train the fundamental basics of health and safety at work, also train staff on person of how to handle customers face to face when things go wrong .
Also make it the for front of the business that all customers know the risk of repairing devices and the real life expectancy of successful repair.
