    Advice to Management

    - Think, even thought a little bit, more about your employees and not so much about only profit.

I worked at CPqD full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Really smart people working here, doing fantastic job (with no or little resources) and really inventing new technologies and thinking out of the box (necessity is the mother of invention here)
    - Great working environment (Campinas site - Polis), a lot of green in a nearby environment
    - Great colleagues, still miss them
    - Liberty to create your own solutions, innovate
    - Flexible hours
    - Employee sports club near
    - Parking space

    Cons

    - Absolutely clueless upper management with near 20 VP's (time to retire few of them?)
    - Lack of investment (licenses, hardware, tools)
    - Lack of focus on how the company is led, and where it should be heading in the future
    - At minimum very curious way of managing project cost, where the profitable projects end up paying the cost of non profitable ones. Non profitable projects will not get any cuts and are masked as healthy ones, while the profitable its the other way. None gets bonus or more investments, except if all areas and projects had a great fiscal year.
    - Fake performance review that is just an act of theater, played by the manager and employee
    - Lack of motivation/recognition from the management.

    Advice to Management

    - I really wish all the best for CPQD, because I have so many good friends still working there, but the upper management needs to stand up for a challenge and change the current way of running their business. So here goes my advice:
    - You can't focus on everything: software projects, consulting, hardware projects, support, laboratories, research, own product R&D , renting your own buildings..
    - Break the old department feud, create new ones that have one big focus. Like one for research, other for consulting, another for software, hardware, labs etc..
    - Then let them perform on their own, and don't transfer funds between them. see who will be standing after a year.
