    Pros

The vast majority of the employees truly care about one another and the social mission of the organization. It is a friendly environment and the culture is for the most part relaxed on a day to day basis. The company has a set of visible core values.

    Cons

The organization struggles to find an identity and is pulled between its social mission and the pursuit of surplus (profit in the not for profit world). Change overs at the CEO level have cyclically shifted the focus from centralized to decentralized management and back again. The monopolistic roots of the organization translate to an inadequate sales model to propel the business toward significant organic growth. Silos are simply relocated under new regimes and not eliminated. A warranted chronic tension and apprehension of restructuring has loomed for a significant period of time. The visible set of core values are displayed (key chains, bulletin boards, etc.) and recited by senior management often but true adherence to them across the board is inconsistent at best.

    Advice to Management

Make a decision what type of organization CSA is going to be moving forward and commit to it long term or the competition will make that decision for you.

    Pros

Flexible co workers. Flexible working hours.

    Cons

Toooo slow when it comes to promotions. Middle level managers are penny pinchers

    Advice to Management

Push your employees. Cut the slackers and reward performance

I have been working at CSA Group (Canada) full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Wages and the people at CSA are good, there is a lot of social good, the managers care about employees. Benefits are very nice. Very flexible in most departments.

    Cons

There are some communicate issues in some areas. There are also some competitiveness between offices which cause some internal issues

    Advice to Management

Work on making processes uniform so no matter the office or department, quoting, follow up and procedures are the same for every employee

    Pros

The Salaries are competitive. The work is enjoyable.

    Cons

The whole place is run like a corrupt third world country. You can do everything right or wrong, and it only matters that you are doing it like everyone else. If you step out of line; that is to say whichever side of the line the person directly ahead of you is not on, they discover an excuse to let you go. Right or wrong.

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to your mid to lower management. They are driving some of your most gifted young engineers and techs into the arms of the competitor.

I worked at CSA Group (Canada) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits were good. HR is not evil. Most of the people in sales and engineering are good to work with.

    Cons

Salaries have little connection to competitive reality. They tried to remedy the situation, but instead they made it worse.

A fair percentage of upper management consists of people who did not perform well in the for-profit sector. CSA is very much like a government agency. Management defends turf and budgets, with little regard for managing the business in a competitive way. Most of the company's obstacles are self-imposed.

The path to longevity is achieved by not making waves and avoiding "March Madness".

    Advice to Management

Certain departments continue to underperform. Senior management knows EXACTLY which departments these are. Sweeping changes are necessary. In one department, they need to replace the VP, most of middle management, and some of the technical people. I could tell them which department that is, but they already know. And yet turf and budgets continue to be the top priority. To sum it all up: Stop acting like a government agency or a social club.
