I worked at CSC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wonder hard working people with benefits at the time I worked there.

    Cons

Make you work mandatory 45 plus hours week as exempt employee with comp time you never get to use. Hr office protect company not employee. After 40 yrs of blood, sweat and dedication toward winning thousands of contracts was laid off and only paid for vacation time and one month severance! Really sucked after all the time worked to help company gain revenue.

    Advice to Management

Be decent and pay all the employees laid off the severance you owe them, the law should not protect you for robbing employees who had dedicated their lives to crooks! Shame on CSC.

I worked at CSC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People were the only good thing there. The infrastructure products were marginal at best.

    Cons

Infrastructure was old, products outdated, sales were non existent people were cut to make numbers.

    Advice to Management

Invest in people and products that work. Do not go through with the proposed merger.

I worked at CSC full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    it is a job

    Cons

No life work balance. You are just a body at the desk. No raises. no respect for the work that you do. You can be replaced at any moment. cost of living goes up but not your salary. even the price in the soda machine goes up but not your rate of pay

    Advice to Management

review the clear values and have some concern/compassion for the people that work under you

    Pros

Tuition Reimbursement. Less micromanagement. The ability to interact with the customer instead of having your PM as the middleman.

    Cons

Staying employed with the company. Not running for the hills.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like they matter. They do all your work! If you don't you will continue to move down the list as top federal contractors. Few years ago your company was in the top 10. No amount of acquisition/merger is going to fix your problem.

I have been working at CSC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work from home. There are a few intelligent people who know how to manage a business, but it is a small minority.

    Cons

When interviewing I wish I had been told that there are no raises. None. They do not give raises here and have not for a long time. Whatever your salary is when you get hired, that is it.

This company makes no secret that the only goal is to increase shareholder value. This is done by acquiring small profitable companies, while letting it's core businesses languish. As employees become unhappy they leave, thus reducing the costs. Employees have little to no value to the company. CSC has extremely high turnover, and this is by design. It is cheaper to higher low level employees and simply replace them rather than create career paths and nurture career growth.

There is no training/career development budgets. There is an antiquated internal education portal that is very outdated, and that is the only training you will get access to.

If you are interviewing, be sure to ask why the last person left and ask how often you can expect a raise. If you are not happy with the answer do not take the job, and do not accept a response of "it's getting better", it's not.

    Advice to Management

A very strong culture of "managing up" has been allowed to develop. This is the cancer on an organization that is supposed to be client facing. The clear problem CSC is facing is that the core businesses are atrophying faster than new ones can be brought into the fold, and the whole company will fall in on itself in due course. The merger with HPE Services will not improve the situation, it only muddies the waters for shareholders, but does nothing to bring greater value to our clients.

Compensation structure needs an overhaul, there is an egregious disparity between the top layers of management and the rest of the company. I currently make <1% of what my manager's manager makes (yes, you read that right). You cannot expect anyone lower than the top two levels of management to outperform when they are working on three-year old salary levels, and the top levels continue to get outrageous levels of compensation.

    Pros

If you can call learning how to be overworked and under paid, then that is the only pro about this place.

    Cons

They lay off experienced people, in order to hire cheaper inexperienced people, force you to relocate to one of their service centers or be replaced, keep piling on the work to the point where you have to work 55 to 60 hours a week in order to keep up with the work load. They move every drop of work to India if at all possible. Not a single raise the entire 8 years I worked for CSC, despite excellent performance reviews. They don't care about their customers. They leaders in this company are doing nothing but lining their pockets.

    Advice to Management

If you would reduce your own salaries, halt all raises and bonuses that you get, and treat your employees with respect you would not need to continue with laying off the estimated 65,000 people one analyst is predicting to be laid off by the time the merger is all said and done with HPE. Better yet, tell all the present CSC employees that they all will be laid off and your only keeping the HPE employees after the merger so they can start looking for another job now before the market is totally flooded with people.

There are some great people here but they are all looking for new jobs.

    Cons

Horrible leadership with no respect for employees. They treat people like garbage. Attrition is double a normal firm. Cuts have gone too deep, customers are suffering from failed projects. Work life balance doesn't exist, they will work you like a dog and then toss you to the side. Run away from this toxic company.

    Advice to Management

    Retire.

I worked at CSC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Difficult to come up with any except Pay was OK. Benefits mediocre - they use the AON Health Exchange

    Cons

Simply the most psychotic environment I've ever been in. The "merger" with HPE Services (formerly EDS) is evidently leading to waves of thousands of layoffs. I knew one person who came off a successful engagement and was laid off the very next day. North American Consulting is taking the brunt of the massive arbitrary reductions evidently because other countries simply don't allow such. Many talented people who were recently hired were laid off without warning - more likely due to contractual requirements in the HPE Services "Merger".

This has created a spooky culture of "who's going to die next?!" - which includes management all the way up. I watched numerous talented managers simply quit and go elsewhere because they could not stomach the carnage. Same for very talented consultants.

The CEO is on a "digital transformation" binge and core business areas are being left in the dust and creating angry customers who are switching to more professional and reliable consulting organizations. People are laid off with no warning and it has had a chilling effect throughout the company. There's a general feeling that no valuable leadership is in place in North America.

    Advice to Management

You've already ruined this company and your pipe dreams of creating something great from the rubble will prove to be your downfall. Too many poorly managed customers and ex employees who were treated badly and tossed aside will haunt CSC for years to come. It will never be a serious top notch consulting company and will instead become a bottom feeder as its leader has been setting it up for such.

I worked at CSC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

...if you're thinking about working here. Then run away as fast as possible and don't look back.

    Cons

Sadly the worst time of my career. I don't believe in calling anything a mistake but these are bad people and this is a bad company. If you look below, you'll notice many bogus 5 star ratings that HR must be entering in an effort to skew the data and prop them up to a 2.7 rating - lol. Management is a bunch of recycled C- players from former great companies of years past that have also entered into a death cycle. This company is simply on the wrong side of the market disruption. There is no ability to drive top line growth so management judt focuses on operating margins. So when bookings fail to grow q/q, they must continuously cut the Opex side and headcount. And so the cycle continues. Mike Laurie's only skill is cutting costs. With HP now coming into the fold there will be more scale and more to cut to continue this cycle during which time Mike Lawrie gets to make millions while building and ceating nothing. The company has no culture and no soul. People are cattle and seen as costs or line items in a Spreadsheet.

    Advice to Management

You all lack talent and any kind of moral compass. You give 2 weeks severance to those who get laid off - which is disgraceful. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for your complete incompetence. I'm confident Karma will have the last laugh... The best businesses are built on a solid employee culture comprised of high quality people that win & lose together while treating each other well along the journey. You actually do understand this and also understand that you're anything but this. And you're ok with it. Which speaks for itself. You're simply unfit to be someone's employer. Enjoy!
