I have been working at CSC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very Professional Coworkers; Paid vacation time is on an "as requested" basis which can be pretty good if you're just starting out... with "No Limit" supposedly. Lots of positions will allow you to work independently.

    Cons

Management seems to be chasing short term cost reductions to impress stockholders or obtain bonuses. Those cost reductions which are mostly obtained with "Staffi" reductions" are so they can fill those same positions with cheaper offshore or nearshore labor. Hard to keep positive when you're are always looking over your shoulder.

    Advice to Management

Don't always assume you can find the skills you really need with offshore/nearshore personnel.

I worked at CSC (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Federal division is run similar to a Big 5 Consulting firm - relationships are key and everyone is responsible for everything (i.e. winning deals). Good location in Reston. Success is rewarded but accountability is applied for lack of success. Good colleagues to work with.

    Cons

Federal division is overshadowed by Commercial division which struggles in marketplace. Leads to lack of infrastructure resources at times or Federal having to absorb cuts to assist Commercial.

    Advice to Management

Pay a little more attention to the tools (technology) given employees to be productive (shoemaker's kids) even if that means shaving bonuses a bit to fund it.

I worked at CSC (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting assignments with a diverse portfolio of clients

    Cons

Line management do not really appreciate effort and threats of redundancy are regularly used as leverage to increase productivity. Travelling expenses are capped low.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and take on board what they are telling you when your enforced policies are detrimental.

I worked at CSC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I was able to move around the company to get experience on several contracts. Good experience.

    Cons

In 2013, CSC had an abysmally low win rate on new and recompete contract awards. That left many of us hanging in the wind and eventually going on unemployment.

    Advice to Management

Concentrate on winning contracts. Keep your best people. Find them jobs when their contract expires.
